Re: iPod
I can't think of one con. FH bought me one last year for Chanukah and it was the best investment ever. I use it all the time. I definitely would recommend it to everyone!

Re: iPod
I love my iPod, but for me there is one con, which is that it only has 20-25 minutes of skip protection. This is less of an issue if you are on the treadmill and keep your iPod in the cup holder, but if you like to run outside and for more than 25 mins (like me), it can be annoying.

Re: iPod
I have an iPod Mini and I LOVE it. It's the best thing I own. I have the shoulder strap for the gym, but I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I reccomend getting the dock for the computer, that way you cna update it and charge it all in one shot. I love love love it! It's well worth the $$$$.
ETA: It's so EASY to use. If you wat to put a CD on it, you just pop the CD in and hook up the ipod. it's awesome. You don't have to do anything. Downloading iTunes is so easy, everything about it is just so easy and streamlined and user friendly. My next computer is going to be a mac and it's call because I love my iPod so much, and I want my computer to be as fun and easy to use!

Re: iPod
I'm so happy to read all these great reviews on the ipod. It's so expensive and my DH is really into getting it, but I just wasn't sure. I think I'm definitely going to get it!

Can you explain what you mean by a 20-25 min skip protection?

That's the only con I can think of - the charge doesn't hold for very long. Otherwise, it's great!!

do you have to pay for the songs you download?

Re: iPod
Most songs are $.99 each on iTunes, but then you're allowed to legally have them on several computer snad put them on CD's. Every week they have a free song and sometimes if you buy a whole album it's cheaper than $.99 per song. It's definitely worth it. I'm also still wokring on putting all of my CD's on it

Re: iPod
I got one for my husband--the 40GB, and loves it! I'm thinking of getting one for myself very soon--the 20GB.

I just got one last week for my birthday. It is awesome I haven't put it down since. I got the new 20gb model which has an extended 12 hour battery life. I LOVE IT!

Re: iPod
februarybride - re: skip protection, i'm not very technically-minded, but when the iPod is running, it's only got 20-25 minutes of active memory. when it bounces around (i.e., 'skips'), it has to start using active memory. so if it's bouncing around (i.e., skipping b/c you're running) for more than 20-25 minutes, it will stop playing music and turn off. you can turn it on again, but then it will turn off again right away unless you give it a nice break. makes it difficult to use when running outside if you're running for more than 20-25 minutes. hope that's clear! if not, let me know - DH is a total computer geek and i'm sure he can explain better than I!

I have heard that the sony minidiscs do not skip. Not sure if its true or not though. Another thing, the sony model does not hold as much music but if you would want more and want to spend a little more I believe there are mp3 players out there that can hold music w/o skipping.

Re: iPod
I would love an ipod but I'm nervous about spending that much money on such a small thing.
What is the difference between a normal ipod and ipod mini - how 'mini' is it? And how big is a normal ipod? I thought they were small to begin with.
What is the latest model - the 40gb? I don't need the latest model but I want something to hold enough songs for 3 or 4 hours.
Finally - will an ipod only download from itunes or will it download any song already on my hard drive? Will it 'know' I downloaded songs from Kazaa? Does it matter?
Are there other cheaper, yet good quality portable MP3 players out there?

Re: iPod
You can put ANY Mp3's on it, inluding ones you got from Kazaa. You can also put on your CD's, all you do is pop the CD into th computer and iTunes software rips it for you, and the next time you hook up your iPod to your computer, VOILA. I LOVE my iPod. FH has had other players and iPod is about a millon times better. I have the mini an di love it, it's VERY small and lightweight, it holds about 1,000 songs, at 3 min per song that's 50 hours. A mini is more than sufficient for me, and it's actually only about the size of my cellphone. It also has a planner, a calendar and games. You can also use to to transfer small files (ike word files) from one computer to another. I think it's FANTASTIC.
