Ipod for reception music?

Ipod for reception music?

Who is using an Ipod for their reception music? I'm curious.......hadn't thought about it before.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

To me it is worth the cost of having a professional there to handle things. On our wedding day we ended up needing to re-arrange the order of some of the protocol stuff (parent dances, etc.) and were able to do this really easily because our Emcee was right there by our side making sure everything was perfect.

I think it would be fine for a low-key event, but not a formal affair like a wedding.

You'd be leaving too much up to a friend or family member to keep the music going and make any announcements that are necessary, who's likely never had to be in those shoes.

we did it for the e-party, which was mostly a DIY operation--casual and a lot of fun! i wouldn't do this for my wedding bc i want the music to be someone else's problem on that day. if it's a smaller, less formal event, than i would say it's okay.

if you are keeping it totally low key, not doing introductions, and more or less using it for background music then its ok, but if you are planning on having people dance and move around I would definatly say have it with a professional who can give you 1) a louder sound sysytem, and 2) you dont have to worry about any of the awkward pauses or weird interuptions that day

that's what DH wanted to do...haha...instead we used a DJ who has all the music on a laptop (Music by Michael)...he did music for our ceremony as well....i think you'd need someone to at least oversee it.

The DJ also brought the speakers and microphone for our ceremony...so don't know how we would've done that on our own...just something to think about...if the ceremony is at the RH.

We are doing the for our wedding! A friend of my fiancee has professional quality speakers though, which we are going to hook up to it. We are having a string quartet play during dinner, so that people can talk, and then we are going to have about 3 hours worth of downloaded music just pumping through the speakers so people can dance after dinner. Our maitre d' is going to handle all of the announcements, indroductions, etc. for us. That was something we asked every RH about when we were first looking, and almost all of them said the maitre d' would be more than willing to take care of that for us.

Music can make or break a reception-we never considered doing it off an ipod, I wanted teh DJ to be able to read the crowd and with an ipod you cant really do that.

I agree with what most are saying - it's risky becaude you may have to stop it, etc. I am doing it for my cocktail hour, but we have a band for the reception.

I wouldn't recommend that at a reception maybe for Ceremony and CH. I really enjoyed having an actual DJ becasue they controlled everything for me.

There are some inexpensive DJ's - check out FM Entertainment or In the Mixx

i considered this too, and wanted to have my brother 'man the system' so to speak, but we'd need a sound system ( our room is big) and someone to man that. so after all - hiring a dj for all that made more sense for peace of mind. FM entertainment is one of the most affordable dj's i've seen - they can give you a low key type of package & take care of the rest for you.

we are burning a cd for CH though - the room has a cd player & built in speakers & it's on the small side.
