iPod in lieu of DJ?

Original post by dewdrop

FH is not really into the idea of getting a DJ. (he thinks they're cheesey & annoying) so i think we may just create one hell of a playlist on the iPod (no band). but now i'm second guessing this.

our wedding is already quite non-traditional, so the DJ thing didn't really come into the scheme of things, until I pictured our guests, which is going to be quite small (60). it seems a DJ can add a lot to the 'flow' of the event.

free your thoughts.

Obviously using your iPod over a DJ is going to be less expensive, even if you went with an affordable DJ. However from your post, I'm understanding that you're decision is more based on your personality and whether the DJ is 'cheesy' or not. You can find many DJ's that advertise themselves as low key and not up in your face. They're out there, and they can play to your taste.

I just went to a wedding that did the ipod thing- and there were a couple of things I didn't like about it...One- there's no one really running the event- making the announcements- getting people out on the dance floor...Then when they did the first dance thing there was this huge pause inbetween the couple's first dance and the father/daughter one. The song came on too quickly and they had to stop it -wait for everyone to get in position and there was all this dead time. I just think everything flows a lot better when you have a DJ or a band running the show

actually I think I could see something like that happening at not make the wedding fun at all. Sorry maybe the ipod is not a good idea
I'm sure you can find a low-key DJ, that you two will comfortable with.

Personally, I wouldn't do it, I think that a good DJ can run the event, even it is 60 people. My sister had a small wedding on of only 50 and she had a band (it was in FLA so there were very inexpensive, but amazing) I think that it is just more fun.

I would get a DJ...yes some are cheesey and annoying...dont get an MC if thats the case and just tell the DJ that you only want him to do announcements-and then the cheese is gone

i would get a DJ...you don't want to have to worry about silly things, like problems with the ipod or batteries dying or malfunctions on your day! You will have enough to deal with!

FH and I just went to a wedding where they used their laptop for the music and it worked out fine. They had some friends who were in a band play for the last hour of the reception.

call tommy's tunes...he's amazing!! You can give him a whole list of DO PLAY/DO NOT PLAY and he's really great to work with. His prices are decent too!!! Ask for Tommy himself or Joe. They are really good :)
