Re: Ipods
I don't know about loading music onto them but I remember I got an MP3 from Sony and the instructions that were in the book were very easy to follow.
As far as I have seen the prices for iPods are the same everywhere. I just got one for my sister.
I believe the mini iPod is $250 and the 20GB one is $299.
The 20GB one can hold 5,000 songs and the mini iPod holds 1,000 songs.
You may get a cheaper price on Ebay but I am not sure.

Re: Ipods
I just got one from FH for my birthday. It's an ipod mini and it holds up to 1,000 songs. I think it's $249.
The ipod comes with software that you install on your pc. With that software, you can import your cd's and also purchase songs from the itunes music store (99cents a song). If you tell other family members that's what you're getting DH, they can get him a gift certificate for itunes so he can download a ton.
Can you download MP3's that are already on your home computer that is a sony if it is an IPOD or does it have to come from a MAC?

Re: Ipods
I'm an apple junkie and everyone in my family owns an iPod! Please FM any questions!
Yes, you can download music that is already on your PC to the iPod. I would recommend the 20gig iPod, not the mini. For $50 more, you get 5x the music (especially if your man is being deployed.)
There is an apple store in whitman mall, circuit city is a licensed dealer, and sites such as macwarehouse.com usually have great deals (I got free speakers and shipping with mine when I ordered from there.)
Definitely invest in a case, I guess the Apple geniuses haven't figured out how to use scratch-resistant plastic on the outer casing (unless they're doing it on purpose to benefit from the case profits!). It scratches so easily!
Anymore questions, please FM. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE my iPod!!!

Re: Ipods
i LOVE my ipod. it's really easy to add songs. once you install the software, you jst hook up your ipod and pop a cd in your computer and it ransfers it, and for preexisting p3's you cna doa search and add them to directory. it's also really easy to buy songs and make playlists. You can sue it on any computer with USB or firewire!

Re: Ipods
My parents just got one for my brother for xmas and I think they ordered it from the Apple site and they were running a student discount. Check and see if maybe you can get a military discount.
My 33 year brother knows he is getting this for xmas and acts like a 13 year old every time he comes to visit. He takes the box and shakes it and tells my mom he is going to open it.

Re: Ipods
I'm getting one tonight from DH for Chanukah! I'm so excited. He bought it at Best Buy. They seem to be the same price all over, from what I can tell.
The software that you use to upload your CDs (which I'm finishing doing right now) is called ITunes. You download it from the mac site. My problem was that I have Windows ME, and it only runs on 2000 or XP, so I'm doing it on DH's computer. It's really easy to upload the music from your CDs or your MP3s. I'm just waiting to get mine tonight so that I can plug it in and have my whole CD collection on it!!!
