irregular cycles & TCOYF book

Hi -
I recently went off the pill and started charting (based on TCOYF book) and have some questions for some of you more experienced cycle watchers

I went off the pill at the beginning of February and haven't had my period since. I didn't have an temp shifts in my charts either. I went to the doctor last week and she did a quick exam, told me she didn't see any issues and put me on Provera (progesterone) for 10 days to try and jumpstart my period. Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, did your cycles return to normal after taking the Provera or did you continue to have issues?

Also, was your doctor receptive to the TCOYF book if you mentioned it to him/her? My doctor seemed very dismissive -- said temp charting did no good if I didn't have a period (well duh, but I didn't know I wouldn't get my period when I started charting!) Thanks!

I have the same problem. I actually went on bc pills to regulate my cycle...after stopping them, I havent gotten a period since.

She put me on provera..which worked the first month and now nothing again. I have started taking an herb called vitex which is supposed to regulate you but it takes 2-4 months to start to work and I have only been taking it for 2 weeks. I actually have an appt in about 2 hours..Ill let you know what she tells me. Its so annoying that we cannot even chart anything because theres nothing to chart.

I went off BCPs in Nov - got a regular period in Dec, then nothing for 2 months. Went to the doctor, she did some blood tests (which were all normal) and I got my period the next day. I thought maybe I just skipped a month and all would be fine.

Next cycle ran 43 days.

Waiting to see what this one brings (only on day 19 so far).

I've been charting but I don't see any indication of ovulation, so I'm waiting this month out and then going back to the Dr if this one runs long again and/or I don't ovulate...

I've always had irregular cycles, and I've literally gone months without my period. My dr. has give me provera twice, but I'm never regular.

When I went off the pill my cycles were regular for 6 months, then became irregular.
I was then put on Clomid and ever since those 3 months of being on it, my periods were regular again.
Although last month I had a 27 day cycle.

Thanks for the responses. For those with irregular cycles, has there ever been a diagnosis or why it happens or is it just something that is unexplained?

I was on the pill for 11 years, so I'm concerned that maybe the pill was masking some kind of medical problem all those years and it's now coming to light. (I'm probably thinking too much about this)

I am always irregular too. I found that charting is pretty useless when your cycle is irregular, because you don't know what you are looking at (or for).
It helps to see that you just ovulated, but by then it is too late.

Re: irregular cycles & TCOYF book

a great site is www.fertilityfriend.com....

It's a site where you can enter your temps and it helps analyze your chart. Many girls on that site have very long and irregular cycles....if your cycle is quite long...you may actually ovulate.....on day 60.....lol like some people do. Checking your CM and your cervix position,....and using opks will help you detect ovulation before it's too late. That site also helps take those things into consideration. Doctors...that dismiss....books with helpful information ...., in my opinion, are not very wise....

Be sure to find a doctor who will work with you and not look down on your proactivity....to educate yourself.

You need to be your own advocate for your health...doctors categorize people...and they don't always work very hard to analyze their individual patient's case.........Do the work for them, and approach them with what tests you think you may need and possibly what medications you may need as well. Fertility is complicated, and too many doctors throw their patients in the wrong category.
