Is $100 too much for a makeup trial?

I scheduled a trial at Marina Vance in NYC and it's $100. Is that too much?

You are paying for her reputation. If it puts it into perspective for you, I am paying $100 for my hair updo the day of.

Personally, I feel it is a bit much... but that's just me.

Do it when you an use it, like for another wedding, or a nice night out with FH....at least then you will get use out of it!

it also depends on what you are getting done. I paid close to that for my trial but I got the airbrushing and the fake eyelashes that I would be having done the day of my wedding.

If $ is not an issue then I say go with it.

If you go to the salon, it's $400 for day of. Makeup is really important to me, so I'm willing to pay a bit more for someone really good. But since I haven't gone to any trials yet, I don't know if someone who charges $400 is going to the same thing as someone who charges 1/2 that. What have your experiences been--are the more expensive makeup artists always better or not so much?

I agree... It totally depends on what is being done... Is she doing Airbrush or eyelashes, or is it just an application of makeup?

I actually don't even know if she does airbrushing or false eyelashes. I definitely want false eyelashes, so I guess I should find out Oh, and the guy quoted me the wrong day of price on the phone--it's $400 for hair and makeup, $200 just for makeup.

I don't know if I would say it's too much, but it's definitely more than other places charge. But I personally don't believe that the amount you charge is necessarily a tell-tale sign of how good you are. I would suggest going ahead with your trial, but if you don't love it, get a trial with someone recomended from this website — just to compare.

I say $100 for a trial is a lot, but I really want Denise Venti
To do my hair, so I would pay that. I didn't care how much she was charging me because I love her work. So if you love this woman, and she can make you look the way you want to on your day, then go for it..It's only one day so GO GIRL!!!!!!!

I went to someone very well-liked and well-known and I hated my trial. I'm actually glad I spent the money for the trial to find out. I am now going to a trial for someone just starting out and spending only 50 the day of to come to me if I like her work. More expensive and a good name are not always best. All of my vendors, except music are budget vendors and they are all going out of their way to build their name. JMO
