I was just pricing Rehearsal Dinner/3-D cakes from Dortoni's for my FH's b-day and that just seems pricey to me!! And that was for a Yankee Stadium cake.
They wanted $400 for a chess board or guitar!!

Re: Is $250 for a 30 person, 3-D cake normal???
I paid $125 for DH's grooms cake...that was for 25 people, so to me, $250 is high.
MY parents would LOVE that cake and my fh would hate it!!!! hes a yankee fan

why don't you price around a little bit... you could even make your own cake, if its not in your budget. I know it might not be as 'spectacular,' but it would be from your heart.

Wow those cakes on Sugar Coated are really classy looking! Those are great!!!
That Shea one is nice... too bad it's of Shea! .
Price around... gee, that's a good idea.
I've made my fiance plenty of cakes and goodies, but I don't think the day before my wedding - or as his 'groom's cake' when everything else is elegant and classy is the time for my culinary gifts!

hey hun, try audrey's... i got my e-party cake from dortoni's and although they are awesome they are definitely really pricey... my eparty cake was just a sheet cake that looked like a tiffany box with a bow and it was like 350ish!! but i did it anyway-- what can you do?
now that i think about it- i should have baked my own, that would have been REAL good

I don't think it's high in price. I mean you only get married once right so everything should be perfect the first time around! And no offense Lauren, but baking your own cake! Come on now. Who has time for that right before their wedding. Don't you remember how stressed out you were! Plus this is going to be an extremely classy, elegant, top of the line wedding, so having a cake from the best bakery would only be expected.

Yeah, I guess you're right. How stupid of me to suggest that. I mean, I was just thinking about saving $$, not all the little details. And it was also pretty dumb for me to suggest getting prices from other bakeries, I guess that makes me Captiain obvious........

When it came time for my e-party I priced out a few bakeries and they were all really $$$. I got a great cake for a great price at Alpine Bakery in Smithtown. The cake actually tasted very good and even though it was half a sheet, meant to feed 40 people, I had about 70 people at my party and I had more than half of the cake left b/c it's so big and filling. My cake pic is in my album. It's not the greatest pic but you get the idea.

We had a 3-D fishtank care for our RD as a surprise to my DH. It cost $200 for the cake, and $125 for a delivery fee.

Warning: biased opinion ....I'm a dortoni's loyalist..... yeah, it's always expensive.... but their cakes taste as good as they look, and are baked fresh the same morning....
most bakeries freeze layers and sculpt bit by bit... and the cake tastes a bit stale..... So, while pricing around, ask bakers when the physical cake layers would be baked.....

Ok.....silly question here....what exactly is the meaning behind the grooms cake and do you need one?
