Re: is 94.3 the new lir 92.7?
NO.
They play a lot of the same music, and a lot of the old airstaff is there (Malibu Sue, Jon Daniels, Rob Rush, Scott Mason, and even their morning guy, Phathead, used to work at LIR's sister station Party 105). However, WLIR now broadcasts on the East End on 107.1. You can listen over the net at www.wlir.fm.
I'm annoyed at Jon Daniels (who is the program director) for playing Kelly Clarkson, Ryan Cabrera, and Ashlee Simpson. That stuff would've NEVER been on LIR.

very true!!! i am still a little sore that lir is now a spanish station. that was like a big slap in the face to the people of LI who grew up on that station!!! i understand the need for spanish stations, but damn, get rid of lite 107 or something!

I was just saying I miss LIR... 94.3 is kind of like it, but I live in Queens and don't get good reception at all, so forget about 107.1... I don't even pick that up. They need to expand their signals...I can't get BAB and BLI...

Sad thing, I never changed my presets after they changed stations (I take the train to work, so I only drive on the weekends and at night) and when DH started driving my car to work he asked why I had a Spanish station preset. I told him I had been too sad to change it when LIR moved

Couldn't agree more.
The parent company of LIR sold the frequency and transmitter for $60 million to Univision, which hasn't even started a NEW station, it just simulcasts from another frequency. The thing is that it was an UNREFUSABLE offer. While you're at a computer, you can listen to LIR at www.wlir.fm .
Also, Lite 106.7 is owned by a completely different company, and doesn't even enter into the equation. It's also the number one station in the number one market ratings-wise, so it won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
As for expanding the 107.1 frequency, it's not possible due to the other 107.1 in White Plains that conflicts.
Yeah, it sux, I know and I agree.

I DH changed my presets. He was so bad, though. When he heard the Spanish station, he made some comment about how he knew that I grew up in Brentwood and I teach ESL to a lot of Hispanic students, but since when did I get into the music

I don't remember the first LIR. I was only aware of 92.7 as DRE...when I came back from college for Thanksgiving... DRE was no more and LIR was there (apparently, again!) and I was totally confused...

Oh you youngster!!!!!
I started listening to WLIR - the station that dared to be different back in 1982 ... somehow I was able to get it in Queens by attaching all sorts of speaker wire from the radio to the window screen!!!
I won EP's twice and had to pick them up from when they were on Franklin Ave ...
