I’ve never been to a wedding that had a card box… then again, it’s been a while since I went to a NY wedding.
Don’t most people give you a card towards the end of the reception anyway?
Thanks

Didn't have one. Didn't need it. I gave the cards to dad.

Nothing is 'needed', it's whether you want one or not! You can use anything, a bag, box, bird cage, relative. I liked having personalized items at my wedding, and loved the card box idea - it now holds all of my wedding momentos in one place

I agree. nothing is necessary. you don't have to have anything you don't want to have. That the beauty of having your own wedding It can be whatever you want it to be!

I bought a card box...(looks like a treasure chest) at Party City...it was only 25.00...cheaper than renting the mailbox

The cardbox is not necessary. I really didn't want one, but found one pretty cheap so I bought it (can't resist a good bargain!)

Not necessary but it is nice to know that your cards are all on one place

I really like the idea that people can drop off their gift without having to hand it to me, or hang on to it until the end of the night. I'm making mine - but I wish I would have bought it. (less work)

I dont think its needed, but Ive never been to a wedding that didnt have a card box. They all had either a box, mailbox, cake or something of that sort.

Its not necessary. Most weddings I've been to used a bag. I didn't like the bag idea. I was going to do a birdcage then found a mailbox to rent that I loved!

How do people know to put the cards in the cardbox? Do you just take it and put it in there?

After they see you or someone else do it they get the idea. Usually someone has done it before. And I think some people would still want to hand it to you.

Not really. You can have a money bag if you want. I will definitely have a card box though!

Re: Is a card box really necessary?
It's not necessary, but it is nice to have a place to put them... This way people can go up at their leisure and put it in the box rahter than some ONE person holding them all night, How do they dance then?
Well, in response to the card box..I dont think you need to have one either....though I think its a nice touch and a place to keep them for the nite safely. My friend didnt have one and well, lost 2 cards througout the nite. I happen to like the idea of the DIY one that a few of the LIW brides made. Something to hold the cards and end up on display after the wedding.

Re: Is a card box really necessary?
mine started giving it to us as soon as CH started. I was glad I had one, people knew what to do with them.
I was at a friends wedding where they didn't have anything, and, all the guests were totally confused. We didn't know where to put the envelopes and walked around with them most of the night.
