Haha well kinda. A duvet is actually a cover for a down comforter. It's thin. I use it as a blanket in the summer and in the winter I put my down comforter in it. HTH!

Down comforters usually get feathers everywhere so you put a duvet over it so the feathers dont go all over the place. Plus theyre cool bc theyre easy to take off and wash so your not washing the whole comforter AND you can change them!! So youre not always buying new comforters! HTH

i had no idea bedding became so difficult. when i went i had no idea what a duvet or better yet a coverlet was! but as the other girls said the duvet is the cover that goes over the comforter

It also saves room in your linen closet- so you don't have a bazillion bulky comforters in there, but you can still switch up the design.

Make sure if you do register for a down comforter that it is washable. I don't use down because I'm allergic but I weirdly registered for two different kinds (one at Macys, the other at BBB) one was spot clean only and the other is washable.

The other great thing about duvets is it's much easier to change the look with the season or your mood. Ikea always has very reasonably priced duvet sets for down the road when you want to change things up...
You can also find them at homegoods/tj's/marshalls...

what all the others said.
i love down comforters... and i have like 5 duvets. i change which one i use every once in awhile so i dont get sick of looking at it.
there's no way i could ever have one 'bedding set'.

duvets are awesome!! not only are they so much easier to wash than a comforter BUT storage is freakin sweet, takes up the size of a sheet
