Is a savings bond okay to give at a wedding?

My brother is getting married in june and I need to give him and his new wife something. I didn't want to give them cash because I don't have tons to give. My dad suggested a savings bond because he can't spend it right away and it could help them out in the future. What do you think?

I thought so. I figured I would give them something little as an extra. But they still live at home right now and I want what I give them go to good use. oh well, back to the drawing board. Thanks girls!

i wouldnt. how about an item from their registry or a nice picture frame or vase for their home?

a bond is more of a christening gift, then a wedding gift.

can you get them something off the registry?

They don't have a registry. No a single one. This was kinda a hurried wedding, planned in only three months. They still live at home with my mom. Its kinda a long story but I don't see them moving out anytime soon.

then give whatever you can afford to give.

I'd give something else. A savings bond is more of a Christening gift because they take like 17 years to mature, so if you spent $50 for a $100 bond, it wouldn't be worth $100 for 17 years.

I agree with Jen. If you can't afford a large financial gift - give what you can and maybe something special from off their registry.
