I am trying to decide between having my renewal here or las vegas. can it be done for 5000 or less for 80 people without being too formal but still elegant?

If you are just planning on having a party and no photographer, video guy, elaborate flowers, I definately think you can do it. Just look into smaller places or maybe larger restaurants and you should be able to find something.

I do want a photographer and i could probabyl make my own flowers. my main priority is the photographer.

I think it's possible depending on what you are willing to cut out. As long as you are not unnrealistically dreaming of a full-fledged affair, it is definitely doable.
I would say keep it down to the basics and you can have a very elegant event. This is what *I* would do:
Skimp on the following: no BP, no limos, very basic DJ package, student photographer, family member does the video, minimal flowers - corsage and a bout or two no CPs); make my own favors and invites
Put money into the following: The reception (food and drink) and the attire. I had my e-party of approx 60 guests at Chateau La Mer for around $3k and it was a very elegant little affair.
My other suggestion would be a destination renewal in the carribean. FM me if you want more info on that. Good luck!

I am sorry I do not understand- you are not married yet right? So what is this renewal you are talking about?

i am married but we never had the 'wedding' so we are planning to have it for our fifth anniversary.

Check out Duet, maybe since its not a wedding, just a few hours, you can get a better rate. I think it can be done. 2003Oct10 had a very inexpensive DJ, check out her review on the BRB or FM her. Flowers/CP's can be bought at Stop and Sho, they have a great flower department or maybe CostCo or BJ's. You can get a white dress off the rack at Macy's. It can be done with research. Good Luck.

On my budget vendor list are a few people you might want to look at:
Joel Cario - ask him to go as low as possible, he once said he could work for $350, only digital Minnick Photography - starts at $499
Donald Hedgecock, florist - prices on my webpage, can do centerpieces as low as $10 (tulips in a vase)
Third Planet Video - will tape your video for $300
SmoothDjRus - my DJ, from the islands, got him from gigmasters.com, $350 for 4 hours, will work with you
I would look at restaurants for my reception. Go to your favorite classy place and ask if they can work with you. Or do a cocktail and champange reception.
