is any one using the photo guest book thingy?

i was going to use my engagement pic with matting for a guest book. Do you guys think this is too sweet sixteenish? Mom my thinks so, Our wedding is formal- would this look silly?

I saw it done at a wedding in August and it was nice, they had it up in the cocktail hour. It probably depends on how you frame it. Personally, I wouldn't like it and I wouldn't hang it up in my house. I think if you like it and want it, then do it!

I am doing it. I have seen it before and it was elegantly done. I just have to decide now on the picture size. My photographer recommeds the photo be 11x14 and the frame 16x 20. The picture seems large to me.

Also I need to think of how to write the instructions for the guests, any ideas!

my photo is 8x10 i got 2 matts one 8x10 and one 11x14 over the 8x10 matt to give more signing room-I am also going to put a white foam board around it to give it sturdiness and i think this will go in the cocktail- i might leave a little note with a nice saying- giving directios, i havent figured that out yet.

My parents did this for me at my sweet sixteen - they had my grandfather (he's a retired photographer) make a large-sized portrait of one of my dancing school photos, and they mounted the photo directly to a foam core board and all of my friends signed the border.

I think it's a great idea for a guest book alternative, but I'm not sure that I love the idea for use at a formal wedding. But, if you love the idea than go for it - it's your day!

I am doing this but placing two photos together. Both will be 5x7's. One is our most recent photo probably an engagement photo and next to it a photo of our faces when we were younger dressed in wedding attire. I believe PYGraphics (not sure of the name) does this but my freelancer and I can do it. So it will save me a lot of money.
Then have the board around it for people to sign and then I will get it framed.

im with your mom on this one... im also thinking it might be too 'sweet 16ish', i have been to many weddings in my life so far, and i dont know anyone persoanally who has done this... but i also feel that its your day.. so do what ever make you happy!

I have seen this done ( a few times) and it can be done elegantly. It really depends where you put it and how you dress it up.

It is your wedding so do what you want!

My girlfriend Jamelle and I did this (actually I stole the idea from her:) ) and it was very elegantly done. The picture was a beautiful shot done by Nick Laneve over at Belmont Lake State Park. It was framed in a beautiful gold frame. The matte works as the signing board. Alot of people liked it better than the podium standing guest book or having a book that no one noticed on a table. It was funny to read some of the comments people wrote and I get to see the names/words people said everyday. Some of those people have since passed and it's a daily reminder of their presence at our wedding. To me, the guestbooks remind me of a sign in book at a funeral. Depressing.

Shamee-were people writing on the board other than their signature? Hmmm that is a good idea! It sounds like something I am doing but adding 'words of wisdom' to the board. Did you get a wider boarder then? How much wider was it?

People wrote whatever they wanted. Some of the messages were very funny. My husband and I met while participating in carshows years ago (and the picture had us with our cars next to the lake). Some of our carshow friends were there and wrote little sayings about how their cars are better than ours, etc. A couple of my husband's friends wrote obnoxious (inappropriate) stuff on it, but I didn't care. It was all in good fun. I think it's a 16X20 but don't quote me on that. The entire engagement shoot, sign in board (pic), proofs (about 50) cost around $250.00. I don't know if it's pricey or not but this is the only time I was going to do this, so why cut corners?

We did it for our wedding this past August, and everyone loved it. When hubby and I went to the hotel room we were laughing so hard at what people wrote. We did our engagement shoot with our photographer, then we enlargened 4 pix and had them mounted and framed at Michaels, I think it is absolutely better than a guest book IMO. My mom brought it to Michaels for them to add the glass to it.

I'm not doing the guest book either.
I think its a neat idea but just not something I am particulary fond of.
Thats what makes everyones weddings so unique though!
