I plan to have one.. I wanted something different than the formal sit down dinner. I think it will encourage mingling and stuff. Also my venue is a private mansion and there will be stations in all the rooms on the first floor..so not only will people get to mingle but walk around the venue. So it's more like a great cocktail party. I even get to do something cool with the place cards.. Everyone will have a name but when they open it expecting a table designation, it' read 'Take a Journey of Feasts' or something to that affect. So no seating arrangment headaches.

Re: Is anyone doing a Stations Dinner?
Its actually hard to find a place on LI that will do this, and sometimes its even more expensive than a sit down dinner! I originally wanted to do this too, but very few places had it as an option, and those that did were out of my price range. But I think its a great idea!!!

its a great idea but i still RECOMMEND you do a seating arrangement...if you have a small guest list its not bad but alot of ppl can cause problems...For one it becomes a parade for ppl to walk around trying to find somewhere to sit and then having an awkward situation where they want to sit somewhere but others ask to take their place to sit with friends and so on.

i thought about that... and it's a really good idea.... but i cant do it.. wish i could... but some of FH family members dont get along.. so i thought a sit down might not heat things up so much...

my cousin got married in puerto rico and did NOT do a seating chart.. a lot of people were very upset b/c we didnt get to sit with our families or anything.

Wow really?! I'm surprised. I guess your darned if you do.. darned if you don't. There will be tables everywhere just no assigned seating. I will, however, make arrangements for the elders to have reserved seats but that's about it. It'll be nice..because not only will they have the option to sit inside but outside on the terrace and garden. And everyone there knows that me and FH are so laid back..they would expect it sorta.

I'm on the fence about this one. I like the idea of mingling and eating throughout the night but I'm not crazy about not having a designated table to sit down at. Think about the older people at your wedding... it might be a little difficult for them.

it is hard, bc even when we did assigned seating we had problems RIGHT away at our e-party...a member of FH's family thought they SHOULD be at the table with his parents, they didnt even look for their place card just assumed this so they went to sit meanwhile there wasnt room for one person who was at the table but it got resolved. Its easy with seating bc it avoids bad situations and also makes it easier for guests. If i went to a wedding where i didnt know the people THAT well i would feel so uncomfortable and probably stand in the back waiting for everyone to get their seats until i found one bc i would think uhmmmm i dont know how close everyone is to the couple and they'll probably look at me like UGH who are you were sitting closer to the couple or we dont want you at this table lol.

what about maybe making sure there is extra seating? i mean we were literally sitting outside the hall b/c there wasnt enough seats and we couldnt sit togheter. 2 brothers at 1 table. another at a diff table his gf at another table. it ******

Oh yes, there will be plenty of seating and I'll make arrangements for reserved seating from my elder family members.

That is a great idea...I think your venue will be great for that. I would do that if I were getting married somewhere like you were but for my RH it wouldn't work. Great idea!! I love the place card idea!
