Is anyone donating their left over food/ flowers to any hospitals, shelters, anything? I've heard of this but I don't know who to contact and do they come out to your reception to pick up? thank you!

Re: Is anyone donating?
Yes, since we are getting married on July 4th I'll be donating our flowers to the VA hospital in Northport near our house. If you've ever had to spend some time in a hospital you would see that there are many elderly who have no one to visit them or their family just doesn't.
In lieu of a favor, we are also making shoeboxes filled with hygiene products and goodies to send to the soliders in Iraq. It's called Operation Shoebox. They have a national website. No one in my family has objected to our decision they think a charitable donation is a nicer idea.
As for the meals I want to do this but many catering halls are leary. they will often make the organization sign a waver for legal reasons in case someone has a severe reaction or food poisoning due to improper refrigeration. Many don't do it because they don't want the legal hassle. I think there is an organization on-line that helps with this but I just heard about it in passing.
