Re: is anyone else...
I'm horrified about how much $$$ will be spent! I'm cutting corners anywhere I can but still allowing it to be a great party for my guests - veil will either be made by me or bought off ebay - tiara off ebay (my mom just bought me a beautiful one that she got for $2 on ebay!) - my gown (which I absoluetly LOVE!!!!) is inexpensive AND it comes with the bra and slip sewn in so I don't have to buy any additional undergarments AND b/c of the embroidery and trim it cant be altered so it has to custom made by the designer for me at no additional cost!! All I need is a bustle!!
Thats really the only planning so far - oh and the Saturday morning/afternoon in Febraury is the least expensive quote I received (which is lucky b/c I got the date I had my heart set on and a bargain!) Also, FH and I have been engaged for two years so we locked the catering hall into its quote from 2004! Prices go up every year so just by doing that we've saved alot of money!!
Edited for my poor spelling

Re: is anyone else...
I'm just trying to keep the whole thing in perspecitve. Honestly speaking, did I book my first choice reception hall or photographer? No, but the mighty $$ talks. In the end, our guests will never know the difference, and we will never remember the florist that we at our hearts out over, or the band we couldn't afford. It's a 5 hour event. Repeat each night before bed time.
With that said, I'm going to cheap out on favors and invitations and blow the budget on the balance. I should save a whopping $200.
Just remember, like I told your FMIL, I talk the talk, but I don't walk the walk.

STRESSED!!!!!!!!! It's such a shame that planning a wedding is so stressful when it should be a joyous time. Everything is soooooooo expensive. It's all about money. FH and I are trying our hardest to go as cheap as possible. Actually according to him I want the top wedding. I say WHATEVER! He doesn't know anything about weddings. lol I try to research especially vendors so I can get the most for my money. I don't have one thing I am cheaping out on just trying to be as moderate as possible.

Re: is anyone else...
I have just cut back on shopping (clothes and bags). We are both committed to saving, but we both also have a bit of money in our savings accounts. I get more stressed about buying a house.

Re: is anyone else...
I can't say I am scared...Sometimes I ask myself why are we spending so much...When FH & I discussed our wedding we figured out what was the most important to us...We compromised on A LOT to make the wedding a lot less $$ then it could have been. Hence we are getting married still during 'winter' pricing & also cut corners..Our house is more important then the wedding. Fortunately we are only spending about $30K...As soon as we got engaged, we started saving & we have all the $$ needed to pay for the wedding...

We are 'cheaping out' by having a winter wedding. At the locations we are considering (Temples with kosher catering), the price per head can go up as much as 25-50 per person by having it in the height of 'wedding season' I'd rather have the function that I want than have fewer guests because it costs more per head to have a 'June wedding' than a 'February or March wedding.'

Re: is anyone else...
I wish there was a way I could 'cheap out' but I cant seem to find any way to do it!!! This wedding is costing us so much money, and Im not even counting in the money we have to spend to furnish our apartment. I just priced our honeymoon and airfare to St. Lucia alone will cost us $800 each. The insanity! I even went over budget on my dress.. I just had to have it. ughhh I need a 2nd job.. fast.

I am, but I figure if I stick to our payment plan, we should be alright. No shopping or anything for the next!!

Geesh, let's not get into this! So we established a budget, and I know once it's established you're supposed to stick to it. Well everything we want (which still isn't much) goes over our budget a lil. We should be ok cause we're planning on making some of it back in gifts, I'm just afraid our guests are gonna cheap out on us. I think our budget is just a lil low for reality, so I don't mind going over to get what I really want. It's better than settling and not being happy on the most important day of your life!!!

Re: is anyone else...
We decide to make our own CP. Since what I originally wanted was about $150 per table

Re: is anyone else...
WE didn't have an EParty. We're making our own STD cards. Not getting a Videographer.
Nervous, my father helped me out, but FH and I just bought a house so money is going to be tight. I'm just trying to be realistic about things and look at what I'm getting for my money (ie photographers)- I'm going to a few vendors and taking my time!

Re: is anyone else...
We are having a winter wedding on a Sunday of a holiday weekend, so we are saving a lot of money here. We went over budget with the photographer but are saving money on the dj and probably the flowers. Our friend who is an amazing videographer is videotaping the wedding for free. We also aren't going on vacation this year and I stopped shopping as much. We have made some compromises but overall, we are still able to do things. We are paying for this ourselves and while we want to have a great wedding, we also want a house sometime soon. I am really happy with what we have done so far!!

Re: is anyone else...
Um..let's put it this way. I had a budget. ALL of it is going to the hall. OOPS.
Cheaping out? I'm really bad. As far as entertainign goes I can never cheap out. I alwaays go overboard.
I guess..umm..I'm havinga DJ, not a band, and I think we're giving up on the harpsit during dinner in favor of a string quartet for the ceremony. Also, I have to price it out, but I may make my own invitations. I'm definitely going to address them myself. I'm not may $1 an envelope for 'computer calligraphy' if I have $$ left over I may get them hand calligraphed. I'm really bad with this. I feel like I wedding is a once in a lifetime event. I really want to go all out

Re: is anyone else...
We're totally worried. Well, I am at least. We're trying to save by doing the following:
-DIY menu cards (2 per table) -1 favor per couple -E-party for just immediate family -Monday night wedding instead of Saturday night (our first choice) -free honeymoon suite and next day breakfast at our reception place (if we decide to book with roslyn claremont) -dress alterations by a family friend (since i spent more on my dress than expected)

Re: is anyone else...
Having it in Feb. (and during the day) definitely helped with the hall (although it hurt with the honeymoon!). We're not doing std's or programs. Nobody's throwing/blowing anything at us, and we're not going overboard on favors. We're keeping ourselves to a $50 limit on attendant's gifts (and we only have 5 each, and no flowergirls or ringbearers). I refuse to spend more than $300 (including postage) on my invites. And we only have to worry about one limo ride: getting the bridesmaids and me to JT. A car can take us to the hotel and the airport. I figure that all of the above probably saves us about $4000.

Re: is anyone else...
we are totally freaked out...I never imagined it would cost this much $$!!
here's how we are saving: 1)day wedding on a holiday weekend 2) dj instead of band 3) we cut our viennese table and downsized our seafood bar during ch 4)making our own cp's
i think that's it...but still we have revised our budget higher like 5 times
