I hired a string quartet to play for 2 hours at our wedding from 7:30-9:30 (our ceremony starts at 8 and they'll play that too)
Is anyone else doing this? I talked to 2 brides who looked at me like I had three heads for doing this.

Re: Is anyone else doing this?/Musicians
i am just goign to have the DJ play some music during the CH. I was going to hire like a soca band or something but b/c i have been to and plan weddings I know that all people want to do is eat during the CH. I dont even remember the music at the CH at the weddings i have been too. However, it is your wedding and u can incorporate anything you want. Or u can use the money for something that has a more wowing and long lasting effect. This is JMHO.

I hired a string trio to play my ceremony. They include Cocktail Hour in their price, so they will be playing that as well. In total, 2 hours (30 minutes prior to ceremony, 30 minutes during ceremony, and 1 hour during CH.

Hummmm.... I've never been to that many weddings, so I don't know. I feel like I should have gone to more bridal shows or something. I'm the oldest and only girl in my family, so no weddings there.... and my cousins are all so much older - when they got married, we were so little and weren't allowed to go. And out of my friends, they were married when I met them or they haven't gotten married yet. I'm so confused... this wedding stuff is so not for me

Don't worry about what most people do or whether it is something you are supposed to do, etc. If you have the money for it, and it's an idea that sounds good to you, just go with it. The quartet will sound so amazing, so don't worry. If you want to change it up, do what I'm doing. I'll have them play the classical stuff during the ceremony time and then play some contemporary stuff during cocktail hour. I think it will sound great. It's a nice added touch.

I'm not doing it...but its a personal choice. I think it would be very elegant and classy to have a string quartet play.
Don't let other's opinions sway you!
What's the new 06ers saying? I PAY MY WAY......
stick with it

I think it's nice, have them play for the ceremony and cocktail hour. We're having musicians for the ceremony only and then the DJ for the cocktail hour, but I think your way is really nice.

I think it sounds great during the ceremony.
I only notice the cocktail hour music if it is a live performer (piano player/string quartet/steel drum band).
I think it is a nice touch, but not necessary at all.

I am having a string trio for the ceremony and the time when guests are seated, etc. The DJ will take over at cocktail hour. I think it adds a really nice touch.

Re: Is anyone else doing this?/Musicians
Thank you, ladies! I called the company and they're sending me a contract. I can't wait to hear them. We're going to have a viola, 2 violins and a cello playing. Hannah plays the violin and I'm sure she's going to LOVE watching them play!
I had originally contracted my DJ to do cocktail hour, but it just doesn't fit with the look of the venue and we have so many older guests, I think the live music would be so greatly appreciated by them (young too I guess!!) :)

Re: Is anyone else doing this?/Musicians
I've hired a string quartet for my ceremony & cocktail hour. We're getting married at the reception hall and I didn't care for having someone playing at the piano and I didn't want the dj playing, just my personal preference. If we were getting married at a church then I might not have gone with the string quartet, but I think live music just makes it more special.
A lot of my friends and including myself & fh have never been to a wedding where there was a string quartet, so I think its really going to be great.
