I originaly had the problem of not having enough people to make the minimum of 150 to now having to cut out quite a few people. The somehow got to 215 and we budgeted for 180! So now I have to cross people off the list which is making me sick to my stomach and I have am very stressed about this. I dont have a problem not inviting some of my family but my mother seems to think that people will talk that we invited the daughter of someone and not the son. My finance hasn't been to wedding where his brother or sister have gone to and they never said anything. I just think my mom is worried what people will say and it is stressing me out! Anyone else have this problem and how did you deal with it?

We are having the same problem. Our list is 160, my parents list is 180, and that adds up to too many people! It makes me cringe to not invite certain people. We are trying to figure out if we should cut out work people altogether, or not allow anyone to bring a guest they are not seriously dating. Luckily my parents are paying for their guests so I can't ask them to cut it down. As for inviting a brother and not the sister, etc....I think that if it's family, you have to invite all the siblings. If it's friends, I think you only invite the person you are friends with.

Our guest list is now at 250 but most of my family is from out of town and not well off so my mom says they probably won't come. Now my FMIL has added more people but she has said whatever we go over they will pay for. I would ask if your parents require people to be there that they pay for their plates.

the guest list was my least favorite part of the entire wedding planning process. we originally wanted to have 150 people. we invited 225 i think we're giong to have ab out 165ish.... so it does all work itself out. remember that not everyone you invite will be able to make it - so you can invite slightly more people than you want to have there. good luck!!!

We are having a small wedding and as i get ready to mail out the invites somehow more addresses have appeared. From his mom, to his friends....etc I had to put my foot down and tell him that 100-115 the most. If I didnt it would complicate things because we went with a smaller room.
For me I want people to help us celebrate but I so want to get started on buying a house and would rather use our money for other things. His parents are helping and so are mine but still....that money can really help us after all the partying is done.

Originally we thought we might have a hard time filling th emion of 100 - most of the family is out of state - so after talking to most of the list about the wedding - EVERYONE HAS BOOKED THERE FLIGHTS.... OMG there all coming so the 100 min. which was ok is now upto 180.... thats a big difference.....

I HatE the guest list part!!! our list (ours, fmil and my parents) is at 294!! i dont want to have over 230, not for financial reasons, but for space wise in our room! once u get to like 240 they use the rectangular tables and i think the round ones just look so much prettier. although i did not want to, we made an A and B list. we are going to send out 250 invites, hope to get some 'no's' from people lol and then send out the other list. I am hoping the 20% rule will come true!

This has been the bane of my existence. It seems like everytime I turn around there is someone else that JUST HAS to be invited. Honestly, I feel like we are inviting a small village.

Me! ME! We have to send our invitations out today (this week anyway) and our guest list is now at about 290 Plus some kids (about 10) b/c BOTH sides kept adding!!!!! They're both chipping in toward the wedding but it's getting crazy!!

We were having problems with the guest list so we decided not to deal with it again until we have to order the invitations. I wanted to put off the issue for as long as possible.
