I have a friend that was not raised Jewish, but converted when she married her h. They have two children and are raising them Jewish. However, she realized that she missed Christmas (the sprirtual aspect of it) and doesn't want 'to be' Jewish any longer.

This is really difficult because the children are caught in the middle.

Whatever one person decides to raise the child in, they truly should 'be' that religion. Children are so impressionable and it is hard if they don't see Mommy & Daddy practicing the same thing.

I NEVER thought I would say this, but after I have been married, I cannot imagine not being married to someone of the same faith. It really does make things much easier. And even within the religion, we are both the same 'type' of religios person. I hope that when we have children, we will be able to pass this on to them.

Thank you for sharing your friends story. It's nice to hear that I am not the only one.

My Mother is Jewish my Father is Roman Catholic. No one in my family is really a practicing Jew anymore. I had said since the time I was little that I would raise my kids whatever my husband is but they MUST be raised with some sort of religion since I was not raised with a definite one.

So for me, we can still teach our kids about the Jewish faith as it will be part of their hertiage but everyone in my family celebrates Christmas so it's not a big deal in that sense.

I know I am doing the right things by giving my child the religious foundation I lacked as a child but I was wondering how others are handling this. I had to tell my Mother today about our decision, she is not mad but disappointed that we went with the Roman Catholic church instead of the Unitarian Church.
