so we are not having an engagement party, but alot of my fam and fam friends wanted to give us engagemnent gifts so my mom had a BBQ so they can come over and give us presents. so after dinner FH and i opened all the presents in fromt of everyone and took pics and all that stuff. well later tonight he told me how uncomfortable he was in front of everyone opening gifts and taking pics because his fam isnt like that. so at first i got a little upset, then i realized not every family is like mine. so i just wanted to know if anyone elses FH doesnt like the spotlight and doesnt like opening gifts w/ the whole fam sitting around you. what do u think?

my fh is very shy when you first meet him but then he opens up... because we know everyone attending our wedding i thought it wouldnt be an issue.. but he is soooooooooo nervous about being in front of so many people... i wouldnt be upset at him.. he probably never had to open gifts in front of anyone before..

Fh is like that.. but so am I .. i feel funny.. because no matter how i feel about the gift i feel like im on display and im being fony.. 'oh thank you so much, I love it' how many times can you say that? its def wierd for me.

My FH is an actor and a standup comedian, his day job is an entertainer as well... you'd think he'd be fine in front of a group of people we know... but he's SOOO nervous about giving a speech at the wedding and dancing in front of people.... i never would have guessed it.

we had engagement parties 2 actaully and Fh and I were both like that, we didnt open the presents in front of everyone because we both felt uncomfortable..we had fun opening them by ourselves..JMO though..

My FH is definitely like that. He actually asked yesterday while we were hanging around the pool if we had to open gifts in front of people at the e-party. I told him that we wouldn't because it does make some people uncomfortable, plus we just want to enjoy the party and not have everyone just sit and watch us. I think it will be more enjoyable just us after the party.

hes very outgoing and has known my relatives for 7 years..and he comes from a huge fame also, so he's used to being in front of large groups, but his fam doesnt do the whole 'lets gather around and open presents' like my fam does for every holiday and occassion, so i kinda understand

wait is something wrong with that? lol...thats how i am and FH actually has a problem with me being like that, so does my mom and other ppl i know. I can't explain it but i don't feel comfortable either with that. Christmas i always end up having to be like OMG FINE i'll open the gifts now. When everybody usually runs right away to open gifts on x-mas i always wait or at least i try to lol. I hate opening gifts in front of others and being like Ooooo look at what i got, i get very awkward. I don't know how im gonna handle the bridal shower

it has nothing to do with being shy, im not shy at all. Also my family always opened gifts in front of everybody and did the whole thing and i was the only one who hated it...I would always say ok can i open mine later when everybody leaves but of course ppl would get mad at me and i would have to open it up later. Its just the way he is, and alot to it, its hard to explain.

SO TRUE!!! i hate making a whole OMG THANK YOU and everyone waiting for a display. ALso i feel even more weird when it comes to expensive gifts, like Oooo look everybody at something expensive i got lets all watch me now open up my expensive gift and me going crazy and Ooo look at what i got. I just don't feel comfortable with this...and by my 3rd post about this you can tell what an issue it is in my life, christmas day i cringe thinking about it.

im ok when opeing presents w/my immediate fam, like on christmas morn, but w/ a large crowd it is a bit uncomfortable for me too. but growing up, even at christmas FHs fam was never like the type to all gather around and open gifts and take pictures of everything so i can see how he gets weirded out by it. but he said to me 'this isnt normal ive never seen this before' so thats why i got a little upset. but im glad to hear other people out there feel the same way he does. thanks ladies for making me feel better!

I dont do it with family either lol, like if its just my parents thats different but not even immediate family lol.
Actually we didn't open anything at our e-party, actually its not really done often so maybe thats what he meant.

My family is like that. Ughh its kind of annoying lol at christmas everyone has to take turns opening presents and it takes FOREVER lol my hubby doesn't get that lol. I don't think he minds opening presents I just don't think he likes when its like this huge deal like on the holidays lol

FH and i are both like that. we didnt open gifts at our engagement party. i really don't want to open gifts at the shower, but i realize that most people like to see that so i guess i have to.
hopefully for the wedding we won't feel that way. that's really my only worry. neither one of us likes the spotlight but it is our day, so hopefully we'll ham it up and be able to enjoy doing so for one day!!

We did'n't open gifts at our engagment party and when we got home and opened them up I was thinking, ' what would I say if that person who gave us this was here now?' Then I realized that a lot of the stuff we got was off of our registries...what do you say to those people if you open the gift in front of them? thanks for buying the silverware that I picked out myself?
