Is anyone else's Mom totally clueless when it comes to the wedding?

Is anyone else's Mom totally clueless when it comes to the wedding?

My mom just can't differentiate between the cocktail hour, the ceremony and the reception. Also, I just called her to tell her about the red apple idea at each place setting with a tag explaining that we are donating $$ to NY Cares in lieu of a favor...and she's like, 'so this is something the guests pay for?'

WHA????

Sorry - just have to vent. She just doesn't get it.

Ha! Sorry...but it's a little funny. My mom is a bit out of it too since my sister's wedding was over 10 years ago. Vent away!

YES! My mom doesn't know anything...it's like she's never been to a wedding before (which she has) and it makes me nuts that I have to explain everything.

She also doesn't understand why everything costs so much. She's never been involved in planning any wedding but her own which was 30 years ago!

I know! My Mom even had the nerve to say to me, 'why don't you just do you own hair and makeup?'. I swear she just tries to push my buttons. She's like, 'cocktail hour...is that before the ceremony?'

OMG I feel you. My mom also suggested that I do my own hair and make-up. She said I do it well anyway! I stopped explaining!

My mom gets things, but one of my BMs is clueless!! She's never been in a wedding before so she has no idea how it works.

She thought the sample dress I tried on was actually the gown I was going to take home, and that the BM dresses they wore were going to be off the rack. I had to explain to her that every dress (mine and theirs) will be ordered and fitted to everyone's measurements.

My FMIL is also clueless because this is her first wedding that is not her own.

My mom still doesn't understand why I don't have the wedding on a Tuesday afternoon in February (I swear she suggested this) I can save so much money that way
(No offense to February Tuesday Afternoon Brides)
I don't even discuss the wedding with her anymore, she just doesn't get it.
My MIL, on the other hand, is obsessed with every wedding detail.

My mother doesn't like any dress that I have shown her or tried on!!1
Then she seems more concerned with her dress than anything else. My cousin and my sister look at her with total annoyance. How can she not like any dresses out of like
twenty five.

Re: Is anyone else's Mom totally clueless when it comes to the wedding?

My mom constantly compares my wedding to her sisters wedding...her sisters wedding was in the late 70's or early 80's..before I was even born! 'I think the bridesmaids should wear hats, at my sisters wedding we wore hats, they were beautiful' 'at my sisters wedding she used silk flowers' 'at my sisters wedding her dress had a high neck, and long lace sleeves, and a long train, it looked like princess dianas dress'

so your sister had a tacky ugly wedding 25 years ago, and now you want to re-create it?

My FH does that. His sisters got married in 1985 to 1990. He compares ours to theirs until I finally had to say Who gives a what they had at thier weddings this is our day! Stop comparing. It's tacky to do that
