Re: is anyone having a brunch reception in the city?
Here are some places I came across when I was looking for a Sunday brunch location for the day after my wedding. My search was pretty much limited to downtown, and I'm sure you can find tons of other places in the rest of the city, but below are the ones I came across which I found to be reasonably priced.
We actually wound up having the brunch in the hotel that we, our families, and our guests were staying at, and the convenience factor was huge - it was nice to just stumble to the elevator the next day to get down to breakfast!
Les Halles downtown - prix fixe waiter-service brunch with choices for guests, private room available
Belle Epoque - soho/village area buffet brunch that would section off a semi-private area. I think they may have wanted $25-30.
Tribeca Grand Hotel - nice (but not huge) brunch buffet in the hotel lobby; they would section off a semi-private area.
City Crab - a few choices of rooms/areas for private parties of different sizes. A few different waiter-served brunch options. This sounded pretty good to me but was too far from the hotel.
Steamers Landing (at the Battery Park ferry terminal) - would set up a buffet brunch in a private area for $25-30.

I just saw this post and wanted to say thanks for posting the information regarding brunch prices. I am helping plan a couple of upcoming bridal showers and this is really helpful!
