Is there anything traditional that I need to know about? Do I need to make a toast or something? Is this when I give the bridal party their gifts?
I feel like an idiot-- I don't know what's supposed to happen at the dinner? Nothing? Just party?

sometimes there's a toast, sometimes not. It's all pretty open-ended. Usually, you give the gifts to your bridal party then, esp. if it's something you want them to wear for your wedding.

From what I understand and what I've seen, you give the BP their gifts at the rehearsal dinner and basically just have a good time. Anyone who would like to make a toast can do so at the RD (as opposed to the wedding reception!) - it can be the bride's parent and/or groom's parents and the bride & groom also.
But nothing is 'necessary' I think. Do what you feel is right.

Don't feel like an idiot, if we haven't been married before we should expect to know everything. I think you just go with the flow and give your bridal party their gifts. It's supposed to be your way of thanking them for standing up for you and whoever else is helping you along for your day.
At least thats what I've been told. Thankfully mine will be small.

we're having one...you normally do make a toast with your FH...just to thank everyone for coming and sharing in your special day...and thank your bridal party for being part of your day...and you also give them their gifts then as well...you don't HAVE to have a rehearsal dinner though...we weren't going too but FH's parents insisted...so we relented

I am having them come to our home for a BBQ. They all very laid back people and the rehearsal is at 7 PM. So I am having them come before the rehearsal.

Re: is anyone having a rehearsal dinner?
We ordered lots of pizza, got lots of beer and all hung out in the room that all the girls were getting ready at the following morning. We gave a speech, handed out BP gifts and that's about it. It was a blast! YOu don't have to make a big thing out of the rehearsal dinner..,.,...if you want tom, that's great, but don't think it's a must. Just getting everyone together and having a good time is fun too!

Re: is anyone having a rehearsal dinner?
We are doing something small just at our house. We wanted to BBQ, then I realized that would pull my FH away from the party, and he would be flippen' burgers all night. So my FGMIL and FMIL will be cooking. It will be nice to relax and hanging out with everyone in the bridal party all together.
