Is anyone not...

Throwing the garter and bo-k? I don't think I am going to be doing this. I don't have that many single friends and besides I want to spend a lot of time partying after all this stress!! Mom and Dad are beside themselves that we are not doing this. Anybody else not

We are not doing this. We are not even doing the Anniversary Dance. We are doing a special thing for our parents. Two weeks before we get married my FILs will be married 40 years, so I am having the DJ play their wedding song and have them dance to it. Then my parents next year will be married 31 years, so we are having the DJ play their wedding song and having them dance to it. Then we are going to present our mothers a bo-k and our fathers a garter.

I didn't do either! Well the boo-k toss would have been fine, but since I am 32 most of my friends/family were either very young or already married and it was unfair IMO to pull out 3 30+ girls to highlight the fact that they were unmarried.
I HATE the garter toss. It is IMO just tacky to have your husband go up your dress and then throw the gartner to a bunch of guys. And the worst is when a 30 year old women catches the boo-k and a 15 year old boy catches the gartner. OMG. And to ask a female to have a stranger put something up her leg is just not good form IMO (again JMO).

I did an Anniversary Dance instead and everyone really loved it. All married couples go to the dance floor, and the band/DJ will say 'All couples who are married under 5 years please leave the floor' and so on until only one couple is left dancing- they are the couple married the longest. The wife got my boo-k.

And make sure to remind your parents that you DO NOT have to do everything their friend's children do at your wedding. I had to remind mine of this a few times.

we arent doing it either! We will od the cake cutting, but noone will really even know we are doing it..while everyone is dancing, we'll grab the photographer and cut it ..no big deal. We have the cocktail hour..and four hours of reception..I just want to dance and have a good time...and not worry about other things.

We're not doing it either. Probably do the Anniversary Dance instead because most of the people are married. I HATED when I was forced to stand there begging to catch that thing. I think it makes single-people feel crappy.

We have something in common!! We are getting married on my parents 39th wedding anniversary (just missed 40 by one year but I couldnt wait another year!)so we are going to be playing their wedding song. I think what you are doing is so nice!

I do not want to do them either - It still is going to take some effort to convince FH - (he really wants to do the garter toss) - I am so surprised how some 'traditions' are imprinted into peoples minds - I would rather spend that time dancing and talking to guests!

We are not doing it either, I am going to give my grandmother my Bo-K and has far as my garter I will let my FH get that himself

I dont think we are doing this either, FH does not want to and I always hated being dragged up there to catch the boo-k. I think we are doing the anniversary dance. THe only thing is that we have single friends who have opted to come w.out dates, and I feel like this is leaving them out. But, oh well, cannot please everyone.

We are going to do the anniversary dance and then present the garter and bo-k to the longest married couple and have them put the garter on. I always hated the bo-k toss. So glad i never have to participate again!!!!!!!!!
