i am doing one........but it is very true. you spend anywhere upwards of $500 and most people dont even really care. that is why i am doing wine. i figure a lot of people like wine and evn if they dont save it they will probably drink it

I don't think you can win with this situation....

If you don;t do it then it will be missed and if you do it depending on what you do then it can be thrown away?

I really dont think it would be missed necessarily but I think that some will wonder where it is. Some people expect it so we are doing it-personalized candy bars no more then $100 for 100

we're not exactly doing a favor. We are doing a donation to a no kill shelter. So instead we are baking cookies shaped as dog bones and tagging them with a note.

I am doing a donation to Cancer

Majority of Weddings I have been to, when you leave at the end of the night, every table has favors left all over them.

We are doing a donation too. I just rather put the money to a good cause.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE not to do a favor. I would rather not spend the money on a chachki that is going to collect dust in someone's china cabinette. If anything I would prefer to give a donation to St. Jude's Children's Cancer Research or even North Shore Animal league.

BUT unfortunatley mine and FH's Italian families expect a favor, it's traditional and FMIL will have a heart attack if we don't 'the family will talk'

I don't think I budgeted for a favor

But, FH and I were discussing a portion (%) of what we rec'd for our wedding gift to a worthy cause.

'the family will talk' ?? Nothing like threatening your future daughter in law!

One of my dad's clients is a chocolate company, so if we can get a good deal, I would want to do that cause everyone loves chocolate. Like others have said, I would rather not spend all that money on a hideous little statue that people chuck or collect dust somewhere. Because we're only giving chocolate, we might do the donation thing as well with it.

Re: Is anyone NOT doing a Favor?

I would rather donate the money to the american heart association in memory of my grandmother and FH's father but I gotta follow the tradition- For Greek weddings you basically have to give something so im just going with the flow....
