We have everything we need. We've been living on our own since college. We would prefer to recoup some of our expenses for the wedding.
Would it be implied that we would prefer cash if ppl ask us where we are registered and we say nowhere?
Is it rude not to have a registry?

I don't think it's rude at all. You are being honest that you don't really need anything. Here is another option for your HM. You can register for your HM and get money that way. Here is the site. http://www.thebigday.com/

Re: Is anyone NOT having a registry?
Definitely create a registry. You need one for your shower at the very minimum. People are going to get you gifts regardless, at least pick out stuff that you like.

Agreed. If you're having a shower, you're going to get gifts. You should at least pick out things you like. What about good china? Crystal? Sterling Silver? Do you want that stuff?
I would register, just don't register for too much... However, you need enough on there for the shower gifts.

Re: Is anyone NOT having a registry?
Some people prefer to give gifts instead of cash, regardless of whether you have a registry or not, so it's good to have one. People won't necessarily assume that since you don't have a registry you want cash, they will just buy a gift anyway.
Even with our registries, we received a lot of gifts for our wedding that were things we hadn't registered for...

Even though you're living together I'm sure there are plenty of stuff tht you can register for. Good china, silverware, new sheets, pillos. It never hurts to get new stuff and at least it will be stuff that you picked out.

You can't say that you would rather have cash...But the registry is basically for the bridal party...Most people from NY give cash at weddings and give gifts for the shower...Otherwise when you do have a shower you might get a bunch of stuff you don't want and get doubles or triples of.

you can also register at www.myregistry.com which allows you to put anything from any website on a registry. So, you can put gift certificates to restaurants or random things from stores you two like.
If you just put enough items to get purchased for the shower (cause the point of the shower is to watch you open gifts), you'll definitely get money for the wedding.

Thanks for the advice, ladies! LIW is so helpful.
I will register for some items. I guess we could always use some new picture frames and lamps.
I walked around Crate&Barrel the other day and had nothing I felt like I needed/wanted. We don't cook much. Who am I kidding? I don't cook at all.

Consider Bed Bath & Beyond. You can return items from your registry there for cash. I'm not saying return everything you get, but it helps if you get anything you don't need.

Re: Is anyone NOT having a registry?
We only got a few gifts at the wedding and they were waterford crystal (except for the turkey thermometer that someone gave us! yikes! but hey at least it was wrapped nicely)... I would register some things, at least for the shower so you dont get a lot of random things that you dont need and have no clue where to return. I registered for a lot of things we already had, just the nicer versions that I would never buy and we have them saved for a house...

Re: Is anyone NOT having a registry?
my fh and i are in the same position. we're gonna make a registry but keep it small. we're gonna put stuff we could always use (nice towels, silverware we've always wanted, comforter, etc.) and stuff that people will inevitably get you but that can be really tacky or we don't like (like crystal - not for us, so we're looking for the best alternative). we're also planning on registering somewhere where there are cash refunds (preferably, i think bb&b does this) or where store credit can actually be used for things you're always gonna need (like target, not my first choice but has a lot of options). of course we have to actually look around first. =0P
