Is anything wrong with this?

Is anything wrong with this?

Hi! I am new here! I am so excited...I just got engaged a week ago! I have no idea what I am doing yet, but I had a question that has been really bothering me, maybe you all could help...

Is it okay if you have a sister and she is not your maid of honor? My sister has not been actively involved in my life for a few years and it has become clear that she would not be best choice for maid of honor. Is it okay to ask a friend to be maid of honor instead? I want this to be a happy time with as little drama as possible, but I can't trust responsibility to her. Is this wrong to do? I need suggestions.

I asked my best friend to be my MOH not my sister. My sister is a bridesmaid. I've been to many weddings before where siblings were not the best man or MOH. I think it's fine especially if you are not close. Your family should recognize this. Good luck!

Absolutely not. It's always best to go with what your heart tells you. If it will make you happier to choose a close friend, then do it. It's not always necessary do what's 'supposed to be 'right'. You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family.

I think it is fine not to have your sister as your MOH...you're going to need someone who you can really trust to handle some issues...JMO

That's absolutely okay! You shouldn't feel obligated to have her as your MOH just because she's your sister! Your MOH is supposed to be somebody you're really close to that has always been there for you. Here's a phrase you're going to hear on here a lot: 'your day, your way.' It's your wedding and you can do whatever you want (within reason of course)

I just don't want to hurt anybody...but I have to think about myself too, you know?

I have a sister and I have two brothers. My sister and I are very close but Im sure if she was getting married her bestfriend would be her MOH and thats fine with me as long as I was asked to be in the BP. Now my brother and I arent very close and I dont like his FW at all but I was highly insulted as was my other sister when we werent asked to be in the BP and she asked a neighbor that she doesnt know very well to do a reading.

I would definitely have her in the bridal party, but I just want the big responsibilities to go to someone I can trust.

I am not having either one of my sisters as a maid or a matron of honor. They are nt in my bridal party at all. It has nothing to do with our closeness. It has to do with the fact that they are both pushing 50 years old and do not want to wear bridesmaid dresses. As a result, I am not having FH's two sisters or my sister in law. It allows me to keep my bridal party small and relatively free of drama.

Congratulations on your engagement, and wish you happy planning!!!!

Honestly, I think you should ask who you want to.
