Is ist bad ettiquette to.... With POLL

cash/deposit wedding gifts from guests that are unable to come to the wedding before the actual wedding date??? This was brought up in discussion so I figured I'd ask the experts!!!

We deposited them - my thinking was - if I wrote someone a check I would want them to cash it sooner rather than later bc otherwise it is a pain to balance your checkbook. I also didn't want checks lying around, esp. before the wedding when everything was chaotic and they were very likely to get lost or thrown out.

I would cash it if for no other reason than this one: let's say I wrote you a $500 check for the wedding 2 months away. Fast forward 2.5 months, Let's say something comes up and money is tight and I have an unexpected expense.....I go to the ATM and see my balance...it's higher than I thought it would be, but the last time I wrote a large check was months ago for that wedding i couldn't attend 2 weeks ago....so I take out the money or write a check for the power bill only to have it bounce because now that you've returned from your honeymoon, you cash a check i thought had already gone through and spent the money again....it happens.
