Is it a no-no to wear red to a wedding???

My sister wants to buy a red dress for my wedding.. which I'm fine with. She claims that someone at work told her that you shouldn't wear red to weddings. Has anyone heard of this? I just went to a wedding last month and wore a bright red dress... No one said anything to me.

I HAVE heard it, only bc my sil wore a fire red dress to my wedding and some people made comments about it. I didn't care - she actually asked me before hand if I would care bc she also heard of this. I guess it's kinda looked at like 'attention getter' and 'taking away from the bride'. People at my wedding made comments about how it made it seem like she, my sil, was trying to 'steal my thunder'. I told them all that I helped pick out the dress and they shut up after that, lol.

I have heard it's a 'no no' for like an older guest to wear red, such as the FMIL. People see it as 'stealing the spotlight.'

You don't wear red to an indian wedding--that's the only time I've come across this.

that is the only time i've heard this also...because the bride wears red.....but the last hindu wedding i went to there were alot of girls wearing red....but the brides was wayyyyyyyy more elaborate so she still stood out

NEVER. In fact, in Chinese custom, red is a very lucky color and is very appreciated if you wear it for their wedding!

I have heard of it, my grandma told me a few times. I think it has something to do with trying the steal the spotlight as someone said but that was back in the days, I dont that ppl pay attention to that anymore.
