Is it a really big deal if we don't do favors??

Is it a really big deal if we don't do favors??

We've maxed out our budget and even though I can do truffles for 75 people for around $150, I am trying to cut down and save everywhere that I can. Basically, if we haven't spent it yet or don't have to, I am trying to cut it out. What do you ladies think? My fi and I agreed that we don't think any of our guests will really care. The only thing is that I know truffles wrapped in pretty paper will add a nice touch to our table.

I think you should go with the truffles..

I dont think Favors matter

No offense but I forget them half the time. And some are just dust collectors anyway.
Chocalates are a good idea cause they can be eaten right away, but if you guests are coming to your wedding for the favors then they should not come at all.

I really dont think they are necessary. I was thinking of not doing them. The favors I want are on the pricey side for my budget, so all depends on how things goes. I figure its either the favors I really want or none at all.

Do what you want, enjoy

I would also just do them. You are spending so much money already, right? To wind up regretting that you didn't get favors would stink. But, if you absolutely have to cut them, don't sweat it. I've been to weddings with no favors and it didn't really phase me!

You could also do a donation to an organization that is important to you and your fiance. You could place cards or notes on the tables explaining the donation and then you can give/spend as much as you are able to. I think that is a geat favor.

I don't think so. I have been to several favorless weddings and I never noticed. Personally, I don't want to bother, but my mother is insisting that I let her do something. But I think it is no big deal. Save the money for your honeymoon!

I agree - I don't think it's a big deal to not give them. But if YOU feel awkward about it, well you have to do what is best for you. If you feel your table would look nicer with them, and you can afford the other couple of hundred dollars without sacrificing anything else important to you, then do it. Personally I would never walk out of a wedding saying 'I can't believe they didn't give favors'...Good luck!

I don't think it's a big deal not to have them. Just do what you can afford to do.

I agree

I think that the favors are a waste. We are giving our guests a very expensive dinner and they are attending a beautiful party. I think that's enough.

I don't think favors are necessary at all.

Metphan and taraalissa

and others who think it's OK no to have favors, are you doing favors?

I do think you should do some sort of favor as it is supposed to represent thanking your guests for coming and i don't think you should just leave it out completely. I have been to weddings where favors were not given and even though the bride and groom didn't find out about it we did overhear guests grumbling about it to themselves. They took it like the bride and groom wanted their guests to put money in the envelope but didn't want to spend a few dollars on them. Try doing the chocolates and maybe wrapping them yourselves to save some money. Or you could even make the chocolates yourself or enlist your bridal party or someone else to help out/do it for you. FYI - if you do the donation it is a tax write-off which is a reason why some of the couples do it.

I am not doing favors. I might do something cute with the placecards that could count as a favor, but I'm not actually putting favors on the tables.

I think it's ok not to have a favor but we are planning to make a donation to the american cancer society - not for a tax write-off but to do something in the memory of my father and FH's mother who have both passed away due to cancer.

While some people do expect them at a wedding - but like someone stated above - you are making a beautiful party for them and will be sending thank you notes for the gifts (which are not required either-the gifts, tthe TY's are required either way). I personally do not need another picture frame or a piece of candy I won't eat as a thank you for being a guest. In many ways that's an honor in itself.

I don't think you need to do them...

While I am having favors, I often forget them...or like has been said they become dust collectors....

some inexpensive suggestions:
1. wrap herseys kisses and hugs in tulle and include a card saying 'Hugs and kisses from the new mr. and mrs.'

2. work it so you centerpieces are the favor to be given away

3. I would never say OMG no favor...they didn't do anything for me...YOU ARE PAYING FOR DINNER!! and even so...a wedding is time for celebrating the new life...not to come home with a nickknack!!

I agree with the majority on you don't have too. But for my wedding it will be the talk of the town if we don't It amazes me how we will be spending money to have our guests share in our day, feeding them, entertaining them, and yet we should thank them for attending by giving them something more. Unfortunately this is one of the most important aspects of a wedding with my family and friends. Like others mentioned the favors will end up collecting dust, but I have to anyway

I would also recommend the kisses suggestion that yabbobay recommended. I might actually use that for my engagement favors (I don't want to do this either ) but I thought of placing them in cheap wine glasses which I have been noticing are in the 99 cent stores and putting flowers around the top of the stem and placing chocolates in the glass with the personalized wrappers on them.
eBay has little silk roses on auction for about 190 or so for about $5 and it adds a personal touch to the favor.

Yes favors are a big deal and it really doesn't matter what you spend, what a favor represents is the 'memory or keepsake' of your day. Wether it's a piece of choclate with the ribbon and just the bride and groom's name or something expensive. It's a keepsake more then a 'thank you' gift. Everyone should have something to give away as a rememberance. Yes I did favors and it was incorporated with the place cards (frames). To me not giving a favor is right up there with not giving a Thank You card. By the way I'm still waiting for a thank you card from a wedding hubby and I went to back in September.

I think form the posts, you can see you can't please everyone. Go with your gut. If you don't want to do them, don't. It's your wedding.

favors are overrated anyway. i don't think anyone will think any less of the event. if they do, so what. it just shows what they are made of. personally, i think we are gonna just do the donation thing, but we will see.

here's another idea:

If you haven't decided on your centerpieces yet you could always do a 'Break Away Centerpiece' which is a centerpiece made up of a bunch of small vases or containers that each couple can take one of as a favor. Then you've killed two birds with one stone.

But you can not please everyone as KGB said. You'll need to learn that quickly while planning the wedding. Go with your heart.
