Is it all eternity or to death do us part???

On the show CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM on HBO the main character and his wife were renewing their wedding vows. The show is written by the main character who also wrote Seinfeld. Its pretty funny.

Well anyway, they are at the altar and they wrote their own vows and the bride says, 'for all eternity' and the groom freaks out. He says, 'whoa I didn't sign up for all eternity, I signed up til death. After that I'm free (or something like that) It was so funny how it went down.

So Anthony and I discussed the same thing. I want to say for all eternity and he wants to say till death do us part LOL

Last night we were at Chilis and we were talking about what we were going to engrave in the rings and he said til death and I laughed because I was going to write Eternity LOL!!

So, #1 I think its kinda cryptic to have the word death engraved on my ring LOL What do you think??

#2 What are you saying when you say your vows? Til Death? For all eternity? or something else?

I like eternity, I agree...something morbid about 'death do us part'. You can also say 'all the days of my life'

Death sounds too macabre for a wedding for me...Eternity is OK, but we went with 'for all the days in my life'.

My point is - I will love him after death. He says after death he is free to do as he pleases

Lutheran wedding vows are very different than the I Do I thought Id be saying


I, (name), take you, (name), to be my (husband/wife),
and these things I promise you:

I will be faithful to you and honest with you;
I will respect, truth, help and care for you;
I will share my life with you;
I will forgive you as we have been forgiven;
and I will try with you better to understand ourselves, the world, and God;
through the best and the worst of what is to come as long as we live.



Even though its different than i had imagined, i think i like them even more - especially since i dont have to Obey anyone!
