to have a fall theme for a labor day weekend wedding? I originally wanted a later date...but I chose a RH with a gorgeous bayfront gazebo for the ceremony and a huge deck for cocktail hour. They have the date I originally wanted (9/22/07) but the sun sets at like 6:10..I cannot start the ceremony until 7pm.
The sun sets a bit later labor day weekend, so the ceremony would still be light and cocktail hour would be twilight.
I'm fine with the holiday weekend...there aren't many people (if any) who would not be able to come on that weekend, HOWEVER-- I've had my heart set on a beautiful fall theme. I've picked my favors, placecards, invites etc. based on this theme. Granted, nothing is actually ordered, but the rustic look of my hall lends itself perfectly to the colors of autumn.
What do you girls think?

I think this is fun....Really....Labor day sits on the cusp of Summer and Fall. To some people it somewhat is the end of summer(hence the no white after labor day) But I think a fall theme would be just fine!!

I should add...when I picked the day.........I was worried that I couldn't do a brighter, summer theme. I wanted it more summery and I though it probably was supposed to be geared towards fall. So see...either will go!! Good luck girl

I think it's perfectly acceptable to have a fall themed/Labor day wedding.. it starts getting a little darker earlier and I think it will look gorgeous to have sunset pictures

Re: Is it appropriate...
I was just concerned that people would think I'm a nutcase....most people are trying to eke out the last of summer days, and here I am ushering in the fall season. My grandmother made a good point though. . .the stores start shoveing back to school and halloween down our throats mid-july. So, I guess my fall theme is ok...

My parents were out on their boat today and passed my hall, they saw all the girls out on the deck for pictures...all wearing a bright summery blue. She says I could always switch to a beach theme...but I'm stuck on the deep shades of autumn. So...like you say Nina, I guess either could work!

Re: Is it appropriate...
i had the same problem even though my wedding is week after labor day. im doing fall/jewel tones but not an overly fall theme. but really when it comes down to it go with what you love and what represents you and your FH. i gurantee if done in a classy way, NO ONE will think you're crazy.
