Is it appropriate

Is it appropriate

to register for a breast pump and pads in a baby registry????? I was looking at my cousin's registry and that was listed.

I personally think this is something an expecting mother buys for herself.

I guess there's nothing wrong with it but I wouldn't personally....and no one really wants to be the giver of this gift.

On a side note, I think that it's worth waiting to see if the BF works out before buying a breast pump. They are one of the few 'non-returnables' at baby stores.

Knowingn how inapproperate it was but it is in line with my sense of humor I registered for a pregnancy test, ya know they sell them at BRU, so I dont think a breast pump and pads are out of line.

KP = you are so funny! LMAO!

I think the 'appropriateness' of registering for BFing items depends entirely on how the individual regards BFing in general. If it is something that they are very open and secure about, then maybe they view the inclusion of these items simply as necessary supplies, similar to feeding spoons, Binkies and diapers.

I agree w/Liz, tho...not many people would choose that as a gift to give, unless they are very close to the Mom-to-be, and they regard those things as important in her attempt to succeed at BFing.

I did My mom will probably get it for me! I make my feelings about BF very vocal, so I don't think anyone will be surprised or offended

I don't think there is anything wrong with it but I decided against it. Also, I might rent for one month prior to buying just to make sure everything works out okay. I also found the Medela In style new, in box, on eBay for less than $200, which is a huge savings over BRU or BBB. And breast pads...well I can just get those myself.

Jenny- they are what you put inside your bra to help absorb any milk leaks.

Re: Is it appropriate

I put things on my registry that I didn't expect anyone to buy (like the pump) but the list was just for me to know what I needed. Also, I bought a whole box of pads, and I haven't needed them yet. Maybe it's b/c I'm home a lot, and only go out in b/t feedings. If I was out and about and going back to work soon, maybe I would need them. But, I have a feeling that I won't be opening the box. I think all women are different. You might get samples that you can use and hold off buying the pads until you know you need them.
My opinion with buying stuff for the baby so far, is that less is more, and I want to buy things as needed from now on.

Re: Is it appropriate

I dont think it's inappropriate at all. Like Claud said, I think it depends on how comfortable and secure a mommy is about BFing and how close those around her are to her. A friend of mine put the Medela pump on her registry, and her mom bought is ASAP.
I think there are things that we all wonder about on registries and then after all, its really not a big deal.
Years ago, I thought it was strange that my cousin put very expensive luggage on her bridal registry, but now I look back and dont see it as big of a deal. Several family members bought it for her...

Karen - LMAO !!
