Is it bad

I dont know what etiquette says.. but im looking for real answers anyway...

on the invites,
you adress the outside envelope so it gets to them. all your crap goes in an envelope in the envelope..... does there have to be anything on the inner envelope?

am i making sense?

Usually the inner envelope is the first names of all those invited... like so and so & Family on the outer envelope...

inner env : mom, dad, son, daughter

i would re-iterate who the invitation is addressed to (just names). so there isn't confusion about who is actually invited. ie- just parents or whole family or just the person no +1.

Here's my understanding of the purpose of the inner envelope... the outer envelope will have the name and address while the inner envelope will say who it's going to... let's say Mr. John Smith and Guest. I might be wrong but this is what I've always though it was for. That being said, I'm not doing an inner envelope. We'll just be sending them to:
Mr. John Smith & Guest
123 Main Street
New York, NY 10166

It just gets sticky if you're inviting adults only or something like that.

but the outer invites are pretty self explaitory. No one is getting 'guest'
we either know the guest so their name is included, or they dont get one....

Often, people will put the names of the people invited on the inner envelope. But I've also received MANY invitations where the inner envelope is blank.

than its not necessary for anything to be written on the innver envelope...

on mine it is because i have a few & Families, were there are people under 13 that wont be invited so i have to put specific names on the invites.

Yeah, the only kids are in the WP.....

there are two sets of teenagers, but we are sending them their own invite to be less confusing... i just didnt want to be rude if the inner envelopes HAD to be addresses

I agree, I would probably just skip the inner envelopes entirely then!
