When my mom went to get her marriage license my father took a day off work. He bought her roses (she still has the romantic card in her memory book), they had a nice lunch and then they went and got the license.
FH is like... well if we have time to go today we will, if not we can go next week.
Why does this bother me so much?

Aww, I understand, it's only natural if you grew up hearing such a romantic story that you would want that for yourself. If it's any consolation, FH will probably want to do it the week before and whine about it the entire time for having to go to work late.

I understand what you mean.. It is a special day and it would be nice if it could be celebrated between you two.. Unfortunately, my job is always so busy (so is DHs) so with us it was more like 'can we speed this up?? We gotta get to work!!!' So while I totally get what you are saying I can sympathize with your fh as well..
Just try not to get too bummed about it! Maybe if you let him know how you feel about it he will be able to set aside some time for it?

It could be worse...Don't sweat the small stuff. Went to get license yestrday, wasn't really a big deal. and they don't make it a big deal either.

Don't be upset about it . We got ours today. We got it ... came home, and now FH left to go to work !!!!!!!!!! We, as women want it all ... and men ... well men will be men !!!!!!!!!!! So put a smile on your face and enjoy the rest of your day!

Try not to let it bother you You grew up with this romantic story of your parents' experience and may feel disappointed in you FHs behavior. I can see where you are coming from...BUT I am of the same school of thought as your FH I plan to get the marriage license when my FH and I can fit it into our schedules- The plan is to go first thing in the morning so we can both go to work afterward.

oh its okay... things happen ... FH cant get a day off of work if it kills him because he is the boss, so I know that sometimes these things are impossible.. try not to worry, he will be romantic in other ways

It's really nice what your dad did, but maybe that's just not practical. Honestly, I'm going first thing in the morning with FH and going to work late. I refuse to use more vacation days than is necessary.

I wasn't even thinking about getting the license as anything remotely romantic lol until I read this..... so while that is a cute and romantic story from your parents, I understand your FH's point of view bc frankly most people just see it as an errand/paperwork... I'm sure he isn't thinking about it like that to hurt your feelings!

It's not bad you're upset over it, but I do promise you that there will be some very special and romantic moments in your life in the future with your FH that nothing your parents have ever experienced will hold a candle to.
I guess this answers my question a few weeks ago about how much your FH is like your dad...
(not to make light of it, but just to say that everyone is different)
FH and I went the other morning early. We got it and stopped at starbucks after and met with the travel agent briefly, then he went home and I went to work. It's all good.

I agree with the girls here.. it's very cute what your dad did for your mom.. but i never saw it as a romantic event either.. I'm excited about getting it but don't really expect anything special out of the experience other then as a step closer to our wedding

my fh was the same way but it didn't bother me too much. it is the real wedding that is the special day. some men are different but you are marrying him for who he is.

i wouldn't be upset over this, specifically because your fh probobly thinks as the bride, your probobly way excited about the ceremony/reception stuff, he probobly couldn't imagine that something like getting the license is important to you too. of course, that's when you are actually married according to the state but don't let this get to you.

My FH does not get excited about much so I know how you feel and how much of a let down it can be when you have certain expectations /excitement level and your FH is all calm, cool & whatever about it....
I am sorry you were dissapointed/ hurt. I am sure he will more than make up for it on your actual wedding day!

Mine is the same way yours is.... try not to get too upset over it... not every guy can be a hopeless romantic... My FH is the furthest from that! It used to bother me but theres other things about him that i love that he does for me so just think about those things instead

Yeah you are all right. I grew up with an ultra romantic father. I guess its just FH used to do romantic things and doesn't anymore. My father is still super romantic for my mom 36 years later. But I am not marrying FH for his romance. Just wish he would do it some of the time.
