I went back and forth with a travel agent no less than 7 times on the itinerary for our honeymoon. I would find a castle on the net and she couldn't do it with the company she works for. Turns out we booked our own on the net and saved over $800. Depending where you are going you can do it yourself and save a lot. They mostly make their money on the flight. so know how much your flight goes for.

With all the resources the internet provides..I would book it on your own. You can keep searching for the best price.

I also agree that you can probably look around more online and therefore find a better price.

After receiving quotes from many travel agents, we decided to book our HM on our own and saved a lot of money! As mentioned by the posts above, with all of the resources we have on the internet, you can definitely do this on your own.

Scour the internet for the best deal for your chosen trip, then call one or two agents before booking. Personally, I never use them, but I hear that those who do large amounts of business for certain resorts and cruises can get you discounts and/or bonuses/upgrades for the same price.

I agree that land based TA tend to give higher quotes than if you searched the net yourself, but there are tons of e-based agents that give amazing quotes that I could not find on my own. Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, etc. were good, but for the Caribbean and Mexico I found www.discount-all-inclusive to quote the lowest prices (and include transfers that the others didn't) and then I found Hayley from www.beachbumvacation.com at the recommendation of girls from theknot's HM board and she was awesome. She beat discountallinclusive's price and threw in a few extras...all in all I saved over $1K on my HM. I am not fond of TA's but in the future, will only book through e-based ones since they 'beat' other prices...you can't go wrong.

Good luck!
