Is it common to go to a bar-mitzvah if you don't know the person?

I recently got in contact with a friend from HS whm I haven't spoken with SINCE HS. But I'm so glad to hear from him and I thought ti was so sweet. He invited me to his brother's bar mitzvah. I think it's just the reception b/c it's on a sunday??? it's actually shavuous.

I think it was sos weet of him to invite us, although I've never met his brother or anyone in his family.

Is it common to go to this? And what is an appropriate gift?

I think it's strange to be invited to someone's bar mitzvah who you don't really know, especially since you JUST got back in touch with the brother. In terms of gift, are you going with Doug? Where is it?

I'm really not sure if we're going to go. In HS this was sosmone I really really liked, and in getting back in touch we clicked right away. He called me randomly from work and we talked for an hour and a half...haha.

So i think we're going to be good friends again...

I'm not sure if we're going to go. it's not until June, so I have awhile to respond, I think

it's at th national restaraunt on brighton beach ave, and I'd be going with Doug.

Jen, you know how everyonr here has that annoying relative that invites random people their weddings without asking/tellign the couple?

I have a feeling this may be the bar-mitzvah version.

Actually I think he has a big hand in thowing the party, since he's much older than his brother and he seems really involved..but you never know.

I didn't know b/c I know Fh had a LOT of people at his bar mitzvah and he said he didn't even know most of them. So i didn't know if it was a common thing to go just if you know a close family member or something
