I guess it all depends on the books you are trying to sell. I use Ebay now and I was wondering about selling on half.com or even Amazon.com. I have sao many older books that I am having a hard time selling on ebay....

Who ever uses half.com, please post here and let us know your luck with half.com or Amazon....

I have found half.com to be SOOOO much easier. I think if the book was highly collectable (i.e. rare) then ebay would be the place. half.com sort of mediates the deal and makes it easier...

there is a flat shipping charge and you adjust your price to accomodate that.

Also, the buyer pays half.com and every two weeks half.com deposits your amount due into your bank account.

Another thing is that you can leave a book listed there for a very long time (no time limit) so a buyer is able to find it when a buyer is looking for it (i.e. not all books have a buyer always out there looking for it). But you can put your list 'on vacation' when you go away and then with a click of a button have it all relisted when you get back.

I have sold many old text books and other books this way.

I have sold on both sites and hands down, half.com is the best one to sell stuff on, especially books. I've sold like 800 dollars worth of stuff on there, and you can leave it on for quite a while, forget about it and then you get an email one day that someone wants to buy a book for like 40 bucks It's just easier.

I have a few of my college texts that are still in great condition for sale on Half.com. I just put them on, and I already sold one.

I think they are both the same - it's a matter of what people are used to looking at.

Even though I switched to half.com, I still think of amazon first for things like books & movies.

ETS - I think with half.com the items are listed until you remove them or the sell. Amazon listings last 60 days. I am pretty sure the fees are the same.

How much does it cost to list books on half.com and Amazon.com?

It doesn't cost anything to list.

From amazon's sight:

The moment a buyer purchases your item, Amazon.com collects $0.99 plus a percentage of the sales price:

6% for Computers
8% for Electronics, Camera & Photo
15% for all other items

The rest is credited to your account. Every two weeks we disburse the funds in your account to your checking account. We even add an additional shipping credit to help cover shipping costs

The shipping credit is based on the type of item you are selling. They assume media rate for a book, video, cd and give you the option to upgrade to express shipping at the buyers request and expense.

From Half.com

What are the fees for selling an item at Half.com?

At Half.com, there are no start-up, listing or monthly fees. We simply take a commission off the selling price at the time of the sale.

Commissions for items sold in the Books, Music, Movies, and Games categories are calculated as a percentage of the selling price of the item only. The shipping cost is not added to the selling price.

Commissions for items sold in all other categories are calculated as a percentage of the combined selling price and shipping costs.

Commission rates are as follows:

Selling Price + Applicable Shipping Costs Half.com Commission
< $50.00 15.0%
$50.01 - $100.00 12.5%
$100.01 - $250.00 10.0%
$250.01 - $500.00 7.5%
> $500.00 5.0%

So never mind what I said, amazon charges the extra 99 cents I thought they were the same price.
