Is it either say 'I Do' or recite entire vows?

Can you say the vows, 'I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.'...

and then somewhere else still say the words, 'I do'?

Or does that replace that? I want us to say everything, but I want us to say those words 'I DO!'.

Wow, no clue.. Sorry dear. I say SAY IT ALL!

I don't think there are written rules. Are you having the ceremony in a church?

If so, maybe they're more strict. Otherwise, I say do it all

I'm pretty sure we did bot except it was 'we will' instead of 'i do' - then you do your vows later... i suppose you could say i do together instead, ask your priest to be sure

The above vows start out, 'I, GROOM, take you, BRIDE to be my wife. I promise....'.

I'd like for us to each just leave that first line out and start with 'I promise...'. Then have the priest ask each of us, 'Joe, will you take Sarah to be your lawfully wedded wife?'... 'I Do'. Then, 'Sarah, will you take Joe...' yadda, yadda, yadda... lol.

That way we get the best of both. Ya know? Ya think the priest will do it?

I also hope he agrees to saying, 'You may now kiss your bride!'. LOVE that at weddings!!!

You got it right Sarah. Most weddings I have been to have the bride and groom reciting their intentions and then saying I Do - or 'Yes' as a lot of couples do these days.

My best friend's husband actually said I 'I Darleen take you Jeffrey' And before that the priest asked 'Who gives this bride..' and he said 'I Do'... because he thought it was time to say it. FUNNY!

You do both.

They ask you something like:

joe, you take sarah to be your wife? and he says-I do.

sarah, you take joe to be your husband? and you say-I do.

THEN the vows. want a copy of ours? are you writing your own? i have 4 diff. versions...mine and the 3 versions our officiant gave me.

We recited our entire vows. I felt more 'involved'. I had asked our reverend to make sure to give us 'short' sentences to recite.

I loved to hear the words out of my husband mouth. I felt it was more 'real'.

this is how we did it, too... the preist asked for our 'declaration of intent' to marry each other ('melissa, do you take luke to be your husband...') and thats when we said ' I DO'
and THEN we repeated the vows after the priest, doing the whole ' luke, i promise to be true to you...'

Every wedding I've been to, they did both.
