it's neither. No matter what, eat when you are hungry but keep drinking to hydrate. Both will make you feel better faster.

Of course, if you have a stomach flu-all bets are off!

hmm. With the flu I usually have the pukes so I eat less. You're supposed to drink a lot, that I know. If you don't have an appetite I wouldn't force eating though! Feel better!

I think it's just an old wives' tale but the line is

Feed a fever, starve a cold...

I just looked it up and it seems mostly it's 'Feed a cold, Starve a fever.'
While I was looking, I found this - maybe there is something to old wives tales after all???

http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn1777

Just to add, I have no idea on the credentials of this site, though another thing I looked at seems to suggest they think there may be some truth in it.

Yes, it is a VERY slow day here!

good thing I just passed it off as an old wives' tale - I'd have been doing the wrong thing the past 27 years

I believe they found that you should eat when hungry but drink drink drink!!!

It's 'starve a cold, feed a fever'

But it does not mean literally to not eat when you have a fever. It means that if you don't get proper nutrition when you have a cold you will get sicker and 'feed' a fever...like fuel it.

Stomach flues are a whole different animal
