dont pay attention that is ridiculous. Times have changed and prices have changed along with it. Back in the days weddings were ALOT less expensive and easier for parents to pay for a wedding. Now i dont think they should be obligated to do so. If they can do it then great, but not all parents have $30k, 50k, 75k or whatever to just give.
Besides, nowadays alot more couples are paying for their own weddings, or getting some help but not the whole thing.

I've gotten it a few times. FH's boss even made a comment about it. He said something like 'Her parent's are paying right?'. Yes, they are giving us something but the rest is all on us!

Oh this comment kills me. This really stems from when the bride would be supported by the groom and his family after the wedding because she did not work . Well it is not that way anymore! My parents are giving me what they can, but FH and I are responsible for the rest!

Well if I ever saw a comment like that I would definitely be offended, because my parents don't have the money to pay for my wedding.
I am just blessed with the fact that both FH and I have good jobs, where we can afford to pay it ourselves.

Let me clarify, nobody posted that here.....it was a co worker...she basically told me that if our parents could not pay for it, we should not have it. That we (me, fh, and his parents) should not have to contribute! I'm sorry, but IF my parents could afford it, they would be more than happy to pay. So sinxce I knoww that they could never, that really offended me.

My father is doing a very sweet gesture and helping us pay for the hall. But thats it. Fh and I are paying for all the rest of the RH and for everything else for the wedding. This is a struggle but its for the most important day of our life. It'll be worth it in the end :)
Please don't let it bother you though. People just assume. They really don't know what goes on until they experience it.

Ditto too!!! I would feel so horribly guilty if my mom was paying for any of this... my feeling is it's our day it should be on our dollar! Also, to be honest I am really happy to be hosting all our friends and family!

it really does drive me crazy when people say that. FMIL said that to FH after she found out that we were paying for the wedding ourselves. then she had the nerve to tell us who we could invite (but that's a whole other story) my mom is giving us a little bit of $ and i greatly appreciate it. i know that she can not afford to pay for the whole thing. i'm interested to see what FMIL's take is on the whole parents paying for the wedding when her daughter gets married.

i just feel like people tend to put so much pressure on you... even before FH and i got engaged people were making comments about us... for example, 'why is he dragging his feet??' sometimes it made me think that something was wrong with us!!!!! don't pay attention to their stupid comments...

omg it annoys me so much when you put so much time and effort into something and people just assume your parents did it all. me and fh are footing most of the bill with little help from our parents and i don't think people know it and i am not gonna be the one to say hey i did this but the assumptions are annoying.
