Is it just me?
So I am at work, and just realized after I am married I will have to change me work email account, my log in to get onto the network, my work profile, the way I answer my work phone (I currently answer saying 'First Name, Last name',etc...
How will people that I communicate with on a daily basis, but not close enough with to know when I am getting married, know it is me!!!! What if they call and i say my new last name and they hang up the phone thinking it is the wrong number?!!!
I am going to disappear!!!!!
Is anyone else feeling this? Or am I totally crazy! I want to take FH's name, not taking it is out of the question. How is everyone else dealing with this??

Re: Is it just me?
I know how you feel. My regular email is first name, last name. And I have everything go there. Also, I'm a teacher so all my kids know me/will know by my last name now. I know alot of teachers after they get married still get called by their maiden names for a long time b/c the kids are used to calling you that.

Re: Is it just me?
Maybe you can ease into the transition. Maybe pick up your calls at work for a little bit after the wedding using your maiden name until you get to tell your clients/old friends that you got married. Or for the months leading up to the wedding, let people know you are getting married soon. Also, regarding email, you can create a new email with your new last name and link your old email to it so that when people email you currently it will be sent to your new name. It will take time since you have been one name your entire life. Personally, I am just adding FH's name to mine (with no hyphen) and will continue to use my maiden name for business purposes and even personal use for awhile.

Re: Is it just me?
i know a couple of people who didnt cange their name at work. its too confusing. i have a while to figure this out, but i dont think i will change it for work purposes.if you want to change it for work, start with your e-mail signature- after your name write something like 'formally...' so and so.

Re: Is it just me?
I keep thinking the same thing, I'm in a slightly odd situation because we use our initials at work as our signature on all work performed, and most people know us by those initials. I think I'm going to change my last name but not my initials. I'll just send out an email stating so.

me neither! i'm actually probably not changing it legally. just seems like a hassle. I'll just use his name socially, but will keep everything with my maiden name

Have you thought about using First Maiden Married during a transition period at work? That way, people will get the idea.

I have the initials and signature thing too. Am I supposed to change those?! I am super excited to take his name outside of work. I was thinking about not changing it at work, but then my mom told me you cant have your paycheck direct deposited into an account with a different name on it. This is actually what started the crazyness!!!
I work with mostly men so I dont really have any at work to ask, and the few woman are either single or married before they started working there.

Re: Is it just me?
I may be mistaken, but I believe you can change your name legally and have HR issue your paycheck in your new, legal name, but can continue to use your maiden name for your work e-mail and correspondence, etc.

Re: Is it just me?
hmmm maybe you can just change your name on your paycheck, but leave your email address/initials the same? maybe you can discuss with your Dir of HR and see what they say about it?

Re: Is it just me?
I just started a new job and thought about the same thing as I completed paperwork. Weird. I may just keep my name at work... I believe it is legal to use it still. I'll have to see when time comes. A lot of ladies at my old job kept their names for that reason.Welcome New Vendors
