Is it me, or are people really that dumb?

We're getting married at the RH. Now maybe I could have put 'reception to follow' or something on the invite but I didn't think it was necessary.
One of FH's aunt called FILs and asked if there was a dinner or anything following the ceremony, because she didn't see it mentioned on the invite.
Is it just me, or is the fact that we're getting married at the RH an implication that the reception follows immediately?

Nah, we're getting married at the RH, but just for the ceremony space ... no dinner or anything! Geez ...

I think it's ok to ask since it wasn't on the invite because you never know... people have all kinds of weddings nowadays and not everyone does it the same way.

I was specifically told by my step-mom to make sure to put 'reception to follow' if the invite says you're invited to join in the marriage because there are times that people don't have formal wedding receptions, especially in these economic times.

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think it's unreasonable for people to have a question about whether there is a ceremony and whether it is right after.

It would be a lot worse for people to assume than to ask. I know it's frustrating, but try to just answer their questions about it with enthusiasm instead of a 'DUH' and a smack to the forehead...

I agree, I actually think if it wasn't on the invitation I would not assume there was food. I know people who have gone to weddings that were just weddings and then everyone went out for Chinese food. I never assume.

I dont have anything on my invites about a reception after the ceremony.

But I think that if I were invited to a wedding I would always assume the reception immediatly follows at the same place, or there is a card saying 'reception at 5pm at XXX place'

So *I* would always thing there is a reception immediatly following if nothing is on the invite.

But thats me :)

Its interesting to see other people thoughts!!! I never saw it that way and I learned something today!

The same thing happened to me!!! My fathers cousin called my uncle and asked him the same exact thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, apparently people are that dumb!!!!

I guess maybe I should have put something on the invite then. I really just didn't think it was necessary at all.
I guess I will also see how many other people ask; maybe it will just be the one.

I'm not going to read what you wrote just yet, but yes, people are THAT dumb... lol you'll see it over n over again in planning

Just read it.... tell her, nope, no dinner... we're going the non traditional route... we just needed a head count so we know how many chairs to set up for the ceremony

ETA: just read others POV... i have never been to a wedding that was just having a ceremony, esp AT A HALL so i would never even think wice about that

I usually assume that would be the case, but I suppose I can see the other end of the coin...who knows anymore!

While I do agree that people are dumb I think that I would wonder this too if it didnt say 'reception to follow' on the invite.. but then again, im not the smartest

Want a good one? One of FH's colleagues, another high school music teacher looks at our invites and rsvp cards which are clearly wedding invitations and calls and says 'what's this about a boat ride?' dumb@ss. Yes, I themed the RSVP cards but still!!!
