I bought a new dress because I very rarely get to dress up.... Ours was a little dressy, but we wanted it that way... its not set in stone...

I think it depends on where you are going afterwards (nice restaurant versus backyard bbq) and the protocol of your church. (i'd feel really awkward wearing sneakers and jeans and a sweatshirt to church but thats me)

Not at all. We dressed up only b/c we went out with just the family afterwards-not our actual RD tho

Re: Is it necessary

I wore black capris ~ ballet shoe ~ black tank and a white button down dress shirt...

FH wore a button down shirt and his linen pants and his leather flip flops (the priest said something about the flip flops)

It's up to you. It's not necessary to dress up at all. It was hot out the day of our RD, so I wore a sundress.

It's up to you. I personally prefer to dress up for any ocassion and since we will be going to the church first, I hope my guests dress nicely too (ie no jeans etc), but I didn't give them a dress code or anything, I just hope they realize that!

Also since we're the bride and groom, FH and I will dress up... not many chances to dress up anyway.
