i did it only cuz i had photo stamps made, so if they went thru the machine it would have ruined the picture!!
also it ensures they dont get damaged when put thru the machine!

Re: Is it Necessary to....
well my invites arent damageable nor did I do anything special with my stamps (just wdg stamos they had at the post office). Should I still request them to hand cancel?
are there any brides to be out there that didnt hand cancel?

I would do it anyway so that they dont get the black marks on it. Some post offices automatically do it if they know they r wedding invites. But I would ask.

I would, it isn't anything extra to you,..... I wanted to make sure my envelopes and calligraphy stayed pretty!

Re: Is it Necessary to....
I didn't really care either way, but I kinda preferred to have them hand canceled bc I have bows on my invites and didn't want the envelope to rip or get bent. When I brought my invites in, the guy picked up the hand canceler without me even having to ask! He was awesome!! I brought in 2 more about a week later along with shower thank yous and he hand canceled them as well! Go to Bellmore post office if it's close by, they're great there!

I didn't bother and no one complained that the invites were damaged. If you have rhinestones and crystals then you should but its just paper then your fine without it.
