Is it necessary to have an inner envelope?

Is it necessary to have an inner envelope?

I've been looking at these really pretty invites and they do not have a inner envelope. They are heavy paper, square, with engraved print, and a reply card with envelope. The style just does not include an inner envelope. Is that terrible or a big deal?

I am not sure about etiquette but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me!

Two of the four past invitations we've received didn't have inner envelopes. In all honesty, at first I was a little thrown off only because I've never seen an invitation with an inner envelope. But, when I realized that it was simply the style of the invitation (as opposed to the thriftiness of the bride ), it didn't phase me.

Etiquette schmetiquette - if you're happy with it, go for it.

My invites don't have an inner envelope. They are french style invitations- The place where I bought mine told me that most newer invites don't have the inner envelope.

Our invites didn't have an inner envelope.
Save some trees- Skip it.

I'm not sure exactly how the story goes, but I was told apparently way back when, the outer envelope was for the Maids, etc... to open the mail so the 'Man of the House' didn't have to get his hands dirty. He would be handed the clean, inner envelope instead.

So you see, it certainly isn't necessary.

I heard that the reason for the inner envelope was back in the days when envelopes didn't travel well--this way all the invitation documents are safe & secure. I don't think it's necessary at all.

haha! it certainly isn't necessary (but i wish it was at my house-haha-definitely would love someone to clean 24/7!)

thanks girls! i feel much better about ordering these invites now. they really are pretty and without the extra envelope very simple and classic.
