We didn't. We spoke to everyone & told them. You may want to do it if you are inviting a lot of people not directly involved in the wedding.

Re: Is it necessary....(with poll)
I don't think it's necessary. We're having 50 people at the RD. FFIL is paying for the dinner so they sent out formal invitations to everyone. We didn't tell them they had to mail out invitations though. You could probably do something cute for not that much money, but you could also invite people by word of mouth.

If you're having a very small dinner, I'd say no, just tell them verbally.
I have about 40 RD guests so we're doing invites.

I've NEVER heard of sending out rehersal dinner invites until I heard it on LIW... I've been in many weddings and never rec'd an invite to the RD.

I don't think its necessary, however I'm sending cheap ones, the ones you get at the 99 cent stores for my guest. I figured it would be nice. I doesn't cost much.

I agree with this, you don't need invitations but my sister was in a wedding recently and recieved a simple hand written invite. I thought that was a nice simple idea.

to send out invitations to the rehearsal dinner?
I think it is only necessary if there are people coming from out of town that would be included. For example, 3 members of our bridal party live out of state. They may not be able to come to NY early enough to attend a RD (most likely the Weds before our Sunday wedding), but to get a proper head count, I need invites and RSVP's.

It is NOT necessary, yet I will probably do it just cause i want to... BUT i have NEVER heard of it til i came to LIW, been in weddings and no one ever did it... people in the bridal party should be aware anyway that they are to go to the rehearsal...it is possible to talk to them , tell them, and make sure they are coming if you dont want the extra expense
