to register at only one place? we aren't registering for too much and what we are registering for we need, so i don't want to go over the top and put stuff on there that we really don't need.

Sure.. I say register wherever you need stuff from. As long as there's things in all price ranges, I think you'll be ok.

Re: is it ok...
that's what i was trying to do last night. i put all the 'bigger' things we need, all the 'medium' stuff, and i have to add some more small things, even though there are a few already.
thanks ladies!

Yep! I agree with the PP's that one place is totally fine as long as you have options in different price points

Even if you already have little stuff, you need to register for some b/c people may do a wishing well or a basket of small things. Besides small kitchen tools are great things to replace.

If you have an e-party and/or a bridal shower and you invite a lot of guests, they're gonna need some options that have both online and in store ways of purchasing items so keeping the registry too small may just frustrate some of your guests. If you only do one place, you should definitely put gift cards on the registry then. If you don't give them options, they start getting creative and then not only do you have things you don't want, but if you dont' have the same taste as the gift giver, now you have an ugly thing that just takes up space.
There's always Amazon.com if you want books, DVDs, video games, things like that.
