Is it possible?

Is it possible?

Hello fellow Brides to be. Could anyone share recent quotes for Suffolk county reception halls? My FH and I are engaged a month and I haven't seen anything yet! Like everyone else, we're on a tight budget and I'm afraid if I just start visiting places, I'm going to fall in love with something out of my reach. We're looking for around $80 a plate with taxes included. Am I crazy?

Try the Coral House it's by the water and the grounds are beautiful especially if you want to get married outside. And it's within your budget

Thanks, the Nantucket deck and the skylight room look beautiful...I'm going to add it to my list of 'must see'

If you have your heart set on October, would you consider a daytime wedding? You will have more options this way.
(remember to add tax and gratuity to whatever price pp you decide on) Also, the mait're D gets $3-$5 per head and the Bridal attendant gets about $100-$150

In that price range try:

Smithtown Landing
Swan Club
Chateau La Mer
Villa Lombardis
Crest Hollow Country Club
MeadowEdge West Sayville Country Club

(off season or daytime)
Bridgeview Yacht Club &
Venetian Yacht Club

p.s.

I know you wrote about the taxes but when we booked our hall I didn't understand that it was separate. The gratuity is 20% and THEN they charge 8.25% tax on top of that.

Thanks for the tip...I've been looking online for hours and I'm in LOVE with fox hollow...I'm going to attempt to get a price range so I don't set myself up for dissapointment. I think I would be willing to trade my Saturday for a Friday for that place...sigh

The Fox Hollow new room (the nice one) i think is over that price at night but I'm not 100% sure. Would you consider November? Sometimes you can save that way.

My FI and I booked Smithtown Landing. They are running a deal for 2012. I dont know about 2013 though. We are paying $72 a person for a friday night. That includes tax and gratuity. (55 without) You can look into them or Shoreham country club. They are both Lessings and are run by the same manager. We did look into Windows on the Lake, (which was beautiful) but they were around 85 (without T &G) for a fall wedding bc apparently fall is the most popular time to get married these days. There are so many places, I am sure you will find some place great!

Wow. Really? I was under the impression that tax wasn't charged on gratuity. I thought that it worked like regular tax and gratuity, like at a restaurant, where you have your bill, they add tax, and your gratuity is based off of the bill before tax is added, with 20% being an acceptable tip for good service. They should totally explain that it doesn't work this way if that is the case! It's very misleading!

Re: Is it possible?

Keep in mind Oct is considered a peak month so prices will be more expensive. If u must have Oct consider a Fri/Sun or a daytime wedding. It will be tough to stay in the $80 pp that included taxes + fees otherwise.

FYI When i was quoted for the FOX Hollow the evening times was cheaper than the day time. IDK if that was their sales pitch tho.

Re: Is it possible?

$85 per person is going to be tough to come by on a Saturday night in October and probably won't include tax and grat. Definitely try a Friday night or another time of year. Even early November could be a big price difference. The Lessings venues have good prices (Smithtown Landing, Timber Point, etc). Anytime you get a quote, have the banquet manager do the math and add the tax and grat. so you know you're on the same page. Also, a word of advice-- low ball them on the number of guests, even if you're certain that you'll have 150 people, tell them you can guarantee 125, otherwise you'll pay for empty seats if you don't meet the required number.

I've heard great things about Fox Hollow, though I've never been there. Beware of site fees and excessive ceremony fees, if you're getting married at the RH.

Good luck and congrats!!

I think it is going to be hard in October. That is one of the prime days to get married. I decided to get married in April on a Friday to save money.

Try Verdi's in Westbury too. It also depends on the date and day of wedding.

If you read your contract, its probably not called gratuity charge but instead a service charge which is taxable

October is a higher priced month. You might have better luck with negotiating if you considering booking in November.

Re: Is it possible?

Anthony Caterer Mill Pond Country club (not sure exact name) was a nice venue & the banquet manager (jennifer i think) was very nice, and affordable (68 ++ for fri pm i think?) but it didnt have the layout we preferred

timber point has a slightly better layout/ spacing and great pricing. miriam (i think is her name?) was very nice & willing to work with budgets.

these are both for fri night in sept (should be same as oct.

our pricing was from last october (when we visited)

Fox hollow was about 91? ++ for nov (maybe 98 sept oct?) but you save on limos (since the hotel is right there). i've heard it's a wedding factory there... too many brides at once. otherwise its amazing.

Meadow Club was 68 ++ but a little rundown. they said they were doing renovations but we didnt want to wait and see what they were doing.

We are paying $84 (plus service, tax, etc) for a friday night in September. I bet a sunday or thursday night later in the season would be a really great deal. But remember - the fall is now also a big wedding season, so you'll get a better deal in the winter. Try the Riviera in Massapequa

The best thing to do, in my opinion, is to go see venues and see if they will work with you on price. Tell them what your budget is and see where they can cut some corners for you. Try for a Friday night or Sunday. Saturday will most likely be difficult budget wise not only because its more money per person, but because you have to guarantee more people as well. I think you mentioned October, that is going to be peak season. Try for the first week or so of November, you'll get a better deal!

p.s. i know people who got married on a budget at the Fox Hollow and it was fabulous (it was a Friday night in the summer)
