Is it possible to determine paternity before birth( tv inspired)

OK, first let me say this has nothing to do with my own life.

But on GH there is a story line about 2 men ( Sonny & Jax) wanting to know if they are the father of the baby their ex (Sam) is carrying.

So, I was just wondering if this is just a tv thing, or if in real life you can tell before birth. I thought you had to wait.

I believe there is a way through amniocentesis that you can get a DNA sample to check. But it's not worth the risk....

That's what I was thinking- amnio.

I wonder if they'll do. ( ok, I know its FAKE, just curious how real they are getting with the story line.)

Not a doctor, but theoretically I think you can.

If you can get DNA from saliva, blood and other bodily fluids.. then why not amniotic fluid too?

That actually recently happened on All My Children too. They determined the paternity of Babe's baby, but we don't really know the results because Paul Kramer may or may not have switched the results! Anyway, they did it while she was pregnant.

They can! I saw it on a talk show once when the preg. girl didn't know between 2 or 3 guys which one the father was, so they did some kind of test and told them the results on air. It might be fake though... it was on Ricki Lake I think.

RICKI is seriose!

that show tapes near my job, so last summer whee we had a half day a few of us went there, we were all disappointed b/c it was serious topic- diet pill dangers. Informative, but not as fun as ' My Grandma dresses like a prostitute' , but really that is more Jenny Jones material.
